I am seeking any information relative to the James Cannon who was listed in
the 1800 Federal Census for the Pendleton Dstrict, SC. He was listed as the
head of household for household # 363. This household listed only two
persons, both males with the head of household (James) shown as being age
45 and over. The second person in the household (presumably a son) was in
the over 10 and under 16 category. Can anyone tell me the name of the son
of James Cannon? William C. Stewart, who wrote a book on this 1800 census
provided a note on this James Cannon stating: "James Cannon married Sarah
Reed, daughter of William Reed. He owned land in various parts of Pendleton
but appears to have lived on Cane Creek of Little River branch of Keowee
river. There were two Cane of Cain Creeks in the Oconee County area of
Pendleton."
There was a James Cannon listed as head of household in the 1790 Federal
Census for Ninety-six District, Pendleton County. This family consisted of
6 persons, two males and four females. Is this the same James Cannon family
as the James Cannon of the 1800 census above? Were the two males the same
two males of the 1800 census? Were the four females Sarah Reed Cannon and
three daughters? What were the names of the daughters? Did they marry? If
so to whom? Did this James Cannon die in South Carolina? Any help will be
greatly appreicated.
