Samuel Cannon and Lydia Pennington are my line. My Cannons are from
Newberry, SC.
Ruffels are good. There are Cannons with the same names. This is common in
all families. Probably means the are related, way back. Cannons have
always been people that instilled fear in the surbs.

Hi Allen, thanks for the clarification. The migration that you
describe
fits
with the general pattern that I have noticed for many CANNONs. That
they
were related, at least at some point, seems likely to me. My line is
mixed in
there somewhere, but can't find where. I have at least one
version of
that
Indian massacre in my files, but didn't pay that much attention
because it
wasn't
my direct line.
One thing that I find puzzling in my line is the unusual names for the
earliest generation where we have a kidlist (b. 1795-1800): Jemima,
Israel,
Perryman, Naomi. There is one other Israel in KY at the same time,
so I
think that
is a strong clue. There is one Naomi in a Samuel CANNON/Lydia
PENNINGTON
kidlist from Newberry Co., SC.....but I have not been able to match us up,
in spite
sam
of years of trying. My Perryman is the only one I found...he used
Perry
in
the 1850 census, claiming SC as birthplace.
I caused quite a few ruffled feathers when I posted the info that I found
to
prove that there were two Samuel CANNONs at the same time fairly near
ea
other
in 1750s SC. There are two lines of CANNONs with Rev War vets in
them,
that
claim the same ancestor....using a James CANNON RW Vet. Well, I
think it
is
obvious that a married couple would not name two sons the same, but
it
meant
that one of these lines was going to have to sign off, and they
refused to
do
it.
Thanks for you E-mail,
Janice
