This is probably my first post, so I hope I get it
right.
My Great-Great-Grandfather was Jacob James Cannon
(1840-1908). He enlisted in Confederate Service in
1861 and was a Private in Company H of the 3rd South
Carolina Volunteers.
He was wounded serverely at Fredricksburg, but back in
action for Gettysburg. On July 2, 1863, he was
wounded and then left in the hospital when the
Confederates withdrew. He was then a POW in Long
Island. He was later exchanged and served the rest of
the war.
After the war, he came back to South Carolina, was
married in 1870 and had a bunch of kids (12-13 from
memory). He passed away Christmas Day 1908, and is
buried in St. Peters Lutheran Church-Piney Woods,
Chapin, South Carolina.
His widow received a Confederate Pension (From South
Carolina) from 1919 until her death in 1933 for his
service.
His brother, Henry David Cannon also served in the 3rd
South Carolina, but in company D (I think). He
finshed out the war in POW camp Point Lookout, MD.
