Roberta,
I am descended from Ellis Cannon through his son Lewis. All the information I have show
Ellis as having a son named James born about1788, but my information shows his wife as
Patsy and children James, John D., Sally (Sosebee), Jesse, and Sarah (Nesbit). Much of my
information comes from Lila Scotts' History of the Cannons United Methodist Church,
and research by William Buce, a descendant through Ellis' daughter Winney Vandiver.
There seem to have been several Cannon families that came through what is now Spartanburg
and Newberry Counties and all of us are trying to find out how -or if- they were related.

Attn: Cannon Hassell;
I am also a Spartanburg Cannon descendant of James Cannon (b. ca. 1787) and his wife,
Elizabeth (Weaver). I am unable to link James to his parents through documentation and
wonder if you know of this line of Cannons? If so, I hope you will post what you have,
please.
I believe Ellis Cannon is James' father and I know James' sons are James Berry,
Thomas, and George. One daughter, that I know of, is Harriet. She never married and lived
with my GGGF, James Berry Cannon, until she passed. This I have from census records and
signs are that these were probably the youngest of James and Elizabeth Cannon's
children. There must be others, older than these, which are listed in the 1850 Spart.
census.
James Berry Cannon married Myra Susan Hardin. I have a photo of this couple.
Regards,
Roberta
