My early Goochland, Virginia Cannons contained an Elizabeth Elam married to
Jeremiah Cannon. A French and Indian war deserter and grandfather to my
Zachariah Cannon who was in Jefferson County Tennessee by 1801.
The Elam's were North Carolina Quakers.
Quakers are a tough chore. They thought recording family history was
vanity.
The most famous Elam other than the football playing offspring of early
slaves is Jack Elam. He was a character actor in black and white westerns.
The guy with the crazy eye. Some grade school classmate stabbed him in that
eye with a pencil at around 1935.

Does anyone on the list have any records showing the CANNON family to
be
Quaker? My ancestor, Mary "Polly" CANNON was said to be very religious
and
associated with the Shaker community in Mercer County, Kentucky.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks, Janice Lund
