My Virginia, EAST TN , SC Cannons are in the middle of this.
I lost track of my Virginia Cannons derived from Jeremiah Cannon and
Elizabeth Elam of Goochland because when their kids moved to SC they spelled
their name Kennon.
I have a 1790 period Benjamin Kennon who is my direct ancestor.
I have submitted my yDNA to the Family Tree DNA project some years ago and
had 64 markers analyzed. That work greatly changed the story of my
ancestry.
Check the Cannon Family Tree yDNA Page which is administered by a cousin
with a different name.
If anyone is interested, I'll get that info.
Benjamin Bartlett Cannon the 5th (really the 8th)

Janice, my first Cannon to USA Charles town was in or abt 1765
(William
Cannon). He settled in Laurens and appears to have had a son also named
William whose son was James Cannon which I have documentation proof he is
my 2nd gr grandfather. He is on censuses from 1920. His wife is
juretta/rita ? They had several sons, one named John Ransom Cannon,
supposedly fro records killed in civil war, but I have conflicts w/ later
census he was not. So, since he had a son named John, he may have had a
brother, John. His other sons were William, James, Benjamin, Nathan (my
line), and drew a blank on the other son's name. Both his granddads appear
dead by 1800. James was born abt 1797 and died in the 1870s. I've had a
hard time finding anything on the Williams. The we're the only Cannons
showing up in Laurens Co except for a Nathaniel Cannon who left before
1790. I do have other info on him but I think you already have that.

Subject: [CANNON] SC Cannons
Hi listers, I have a John CANNON who had kids in SC during the late 1790s,
then removed to western KY. He married Rachel WOOTEN and then
disappeared. I have always "assumed" that he came over prior to the Rev
War, and fought in that war, but died before he could collect his
pension...he is not listed in the pension records.
I am now wondering if he came to this country just after the Rev War and
immediately started moving west...he is in Pendleton Co., SC census.
Has anyone ever discovered their lines coming over right after the war??
Anyone found ship's passenger lists for that time period??
"Leave no stone unturned".....or in this case, follow every
possibility....
thanks,
Janice (CANNON)
