Janice, I am very curious about your CANNONs that came to Oregon. My CANNON line came to
Multnomah county, OR in the early 20th century, but I have always wondered why they
came....perhaps they knew other Cannons who had already lived there. Mine lived mostly in
Portland area, that's where I was born.
thanks, Janice (Cannon)

Thank you Carol - what a great idea!
My ancestor was James CANNON. His information is:
Born 21 Nov 1756 in Ireland (or Isle of Man). Came to
America about 1771. Joined the Continental Army and
served in the Revolutionary War. Was commissioned 1 Lt. for
meritorious conduct, and reportedly also served with General
George Washington.
Married Mary Long 20 Jan 1795 in Pennsylvania. Their
children were:
*Abraham dob About 1780, dod 1825 (Indiana) (My Ancestor)
Catherine dob about 1782, dod ?
Margaret dob about 1784, dod ?
Daniel dob about 1790, dod ?
Susanna dob 19 May 1793, dod 30 Sept 1870 (Oregon)
Richard dob 12 Oct 1796, dod 21 Dec 1888 (Ohio)
James dob 12 Oct 1796, dod 1889
Moses dob 1801, dod After 1844
James moved from Pennsylvania to Shelby County, Ohio about 1795
where he died.
Abraham married Nancy Jane THATCHER 14 Feb. 1806 in Ohio. Their children were:
*Samuel Long dob 1807, dod 1885 (Oregon) (My Ancestor)
James dob 1808,dod 1889 (Indiana)

Samuel married Susannah Eyler 1826 in Ohio. Their children:
*Sarah Johnson dob 1837, dob 1929 (Oregon) (My Ancestor)
Jacob dob 1832, dob 1899 (Oregon)
George Washington dob 1835, dob 1913 (California)

Abraham dob 1844, dob 1918 (Oregon)
So, my Cannons were in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, and Oregon.
Happy 4th of July to all you Cannon's!
Janice
I keep seeing info on Cannons in Pennsylvania. My John Cannon and oldest son James Cannon
left PA about
1832-1836, came thru Ohio to Alabama, Louisiana and ended up in Texas. Supposedly John
worked in the coal mines in PA but I have no idea when he came to America from Ireland.
John was married to Catharine Castillo, or at least she is listed as mother to John's
6th child Jane who was born in La. John was born in Ireland and James was born in Pa
according to records. If anyone has info on this family in PA I would appreciate it as I
have not found any records of them in PA. James has been listed as being born in 1822
and 1832 which I believe 1832 to be correct. John was born about 1800 in Ireland. I have
records of this family thru 1883 in Texas but have been unable to find actual death date
or place of John or Catharine. It should have been Bexar or Atascosa Counties in Texas.
Thanks for any info or suggestion you may have. John, James, and 2 more sons were in
Civil War in Texas. Pat Webber
