Mary,
You might find it interesting to visit the Coupeland part of the Rusk
cemetery. There you will see a rather grand headstone for Benjamin Bartlett
Cannon and his second wife Charlotte Miller of Hamilton County TN.
Somehow the Mason's found his and her, more or less unmarked grave, and had
a beautiful headstone erected over it.
It was to honor the fact that BBC 1st created the first Masonic lodge in
Texas. And two others before having a stroke on his way to creating one in
San Augustine.
If anyone is interested, I can e-mail them my Cannon document on BBC 1st.
It has not been up-dated since the import work on them by the Bennet
brothers, and is therefore highly incomplete.

Hi Mary,
Is one of your Cannons Benjamin E. Cannon of Cannon's Ferry?
14 years ago I paid $285 to buy an 1861 map of Texas showing Cannon's
Ferry
at the West edge of Cherokee County. That was before I learned it wasn't
named for my great grandfather.
The map is for sale at a reduced price.
