This is great! Thanks Eugenia. Would it be possible for me to get a copy
of the letter? Thanks so much for your help.

Here is some preliminary info--some articles transcribed about the Cannons.
Tonight I will send names, dates, etc from the notebook I keep at home.
From a letter from one of William Henry and Nancy Cannon Hall's
granddaughters (written in 1956):
"I believe my grandfather, William Henry Hall together with his wife [Nancy
Cannon] and the children which were then born, came to Texas from the
vicinity of Charleston SC [spent one year there before leaving for TX in
1842]. Aunt Rebecca was one of the children [also included Henry, Virgil,
Kate] and rode with them in their surrey, and they also had two wagons
filled with slaves which they brought with them." Second note: "...she told
me that in the olden days she was taught to weave material. And that she
first she used a spinning wheel to make the thread, and then weaved the
material and made pants for members of her family. She said that she and
Aunt Liza used to weave together." [I include this because this was taught
by Nancy Cannon to her daughters.] Third excerpt: "Nancy Cannon and Mary
Cannon were sisters. Nancy Cannon married William Henry Hall. I believe she
told me they were originally from the state of South Carolina. At that time
they lived
in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Texas.

Eugenis,
Thanks so much for your response.
Yes, I surely would like to have the information. My husband's family,
is not into research, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about their
Cannon family. And information is welcomed.
I understand that William Cannon's children:
David R. (Ruff or Revina) Cannon, came to TX in 1838 or earlier;
Nancy Cannon Hall, Mary Ann McWilliams, and their mother Elizabeth Ruff
Cannon, came later;
and was there a Henry Cannon, and if so what happened to him?
Thanks,
Sallie

Sallie,
Sorry for taking so long to write; I was 'cleaning house' and came across
your email, which I somehow missed. I am a descendant of Nancy Cannon Hall,
who was a daughter of Elizabeth Ruff Cannon Holt Watkins--let me know if you
still want this info.
Eugenia

In viewing databases on RootsWeb, concerning William Cannon, b. abt 1787,
SC, (son of David Cannon & Nancy Johnston) I noticed some databases show
that William Cannon and wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Ruff, had a child named
Elizabeth Cannon, b. Nov. 19, 1799.
I do not find this Elizabeth as a child of William and Elizabeth Ruff
Cannon. I show children as, David R. , Mary Ann, Nancy, and possibly a
brother Henry Cannon
Anyone have a record of the names of the children of William and Elizabeth
Ruff Cannon.
Anyone have a copy of the original Will of William Cannon?
Thanks,
Sallie
