I have GGGGrandmother Mary Ann Cannon born abt. !830 in Ga. or SC. depending
on which census is correct. She died abt. 1898 in Bullock County, Ala. She
married Jackson W. Courson Dec. 12, 1838 in Pike County, Ala. and they had 7
children, some of whom moved to Texas and Ark. after the civil war. Anyone
searching for Cannon's in Ala?
My gg grandfather was James L. CANNON, born circa 1815, supposedly in Tennessee. I find him in the 1850 Gibson County, TN census. By my gg grandmother, Mary PATE, he had three children, Benjamin C. Cannon, William Henry Cannon and Hepsey Ann Cannon, my g grandmother. James died sometime between 1855 and 1860 in either Arkansas or MIssouri, possibly Stoddard County, Missouri. He also may have been previously married to Mary Taylor of Gibson County, resulting in two daughters, Amanda CANNON and Clementine CANNON. His last marriage was to Nancy KING of Obion County, Tennessee. I believe that they had two children, John N. Cannon and Cordelia Cannon.
My objective for years has been to identify the parents of James L. CANNON. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Jim Prange
My GGGrandfather Peter Cannon migrated to U.S.
about 1849, settled in Chester County Pa. Wife Katherine, children, John, James, Peter, Luke (myGreat Grandfather) born 1865,he settled in Philadelphia Pa. wife Margaret (Leahy), two sons Peter (my Grandfather) and William.
It is time for a Roll Call - let's try to find some cousins and ancestors!
Please send a post TO THE LIST (not to me) about your ancestors with this
surname. Remember to include all the information you have available about
when and where they lived. Maybe other members of this list can help you -
and maybe you will find some new cousins!
Your listowner,
Carol C-H <cch(a)netdoor.com> http://www2.netdoor.com/~cch/
Francis and Susan,
There were Cannon-Richardson and Cannon-Slaughter marriages in the Ascension
Parish, Louisiana Cannon families. These are not my Cannons, but I have info
about them on my free website: www.hstreetman.com Most of my info about
the Cannons that were not my ancestors comes from Catholic Diocese records
and also from tombstones. The Cannons that may be your line seemed to have
been mainly centered in E. Baton Rouge Parish.
Hope you find some of your people there.
There is a Richardson Cemetery in Ascension Parish where some Cannons are
buried. Some of their burials are listed in the link called CANNON Burials.
Good luck!
Heidi

I am seeking any information on a Hannah Cannon who was born in South Carolina about 1782. Was she a daughter of James Cannon and Sarah Reed? She may be my gg grandmother. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Did any of your Cannons who came to MD in the late 1600s have a son
named William who migrated south, maybe to VA, then NC and SC?
My 3rd great grandfather, James Cannon, was born in SC about 1797/98 in
Laurens County, SC. The only Cannon showing in Laurens County at the time
of his birth is a William Cannon, but I can't locate any data on him. I do
know some of the Cannons from MD came to Newberry, SC in the 1700s, but I
have been unable to find a match there. Newberry borders Laurens County on
the southern end.
Good Hunting!

Hi Janice,
At the 1901 census Charles was living with his parents at Aston, Birmingham,
England. He and Emily Serena Foote married at Reading, Berkshire in 1904
where they had three children, Hilda Emily in 1904, Charles Gilbert in 1906 and
May Evelyn in 1909. Sometims between 1909 and 1911 they moved to Canada for
at the 1911 census they were living in Manitoba. Nothing else known about the
family other than the death of Serena at Vancouver in 1961 and that of Charles
William also in Vancouver in 1964.
Hope this will help.
Allen
My Canon / Cannon family appears to originate from Berkshire, England, but I
have just discovered that one branch of the family moved to Canada in the
early 1900s. I would be delighted to hear from anybody who is descended from a
Charles William Cannon and his wife Emily Serena, both of whom died in the
Vancouver area in the early 1960s, or knows anything about them.

Re Fincannon - the name of the book is "Fincannons, Cannons, Voncannons,
Vuncannons and Related Families" by Al G. Fincannon. I found the book
several years back when I was doing some research at the Greenville, SC
Library (Genealogy Room). I was thinking it had just been released shortly
before that. The number of the book at the Greenville Gen Lib was Gen 929.2,
Fincannon.
Some of my notes from the book are:
Page 59 - Mary Ann Cannon, b. 5/5/1857, d. 2/15/1939, married Warren Grogan.
Their children were Walter, Claude, Thomas, Emma, Lois, Annie, and Gertie
Lee. (see pages 13, 59, 173)
Page 173 - David Eli Cannon, b. 12/5/1837, d. 11/19/1898, married Sarah Ann
Farrus 1/1/1861. They lived in Gaston Co., NC near Mt Holly, NC on a 182a
acre farm given to him by his father. He also purchased other acres. They
were of Lutheran faith.
David Eli was a son of William F. Cannon. His brothers were Frederick J.,
William, John, Franklin and Francis.
Children of David Eli were:
(1) Nathaniel Pinckney, b. 10/31/1861, d 3/25/1923. (never married)
(2) John William
(3) Ernest Richard
(4) Margaret Dora
(5) Lula Bell
(6) Mary Frances Ellen or Effer(?) can't read my own writing!
