A James Cannon is in the census for Spartanburg, SC with his wife, Elizabeth and children; George, b. about 1827; Harriet, b. about 1830; (James) Berry, b. about 1837; Thomas, b. about 1841.
My line is through James Berry Cannon who married Myra Susan Hardin in 1867.
I suspect that this family descends from Ellis Cannon, that James the father, may have been "James George Cannon", the brothers MAY BE: Thomas Huffman Cannon, and George Ellis Cannon, and that there may be other siblings in the family.
Are there any of you out there on the "list" who have information about these Cannons and would share it?
Many, many thanks in advance,'
Roberta
Does anyone have a Dorinda Cannon (b abt 1797/`800) in their line. She
married Thomas Wilkerson (b abt 1799/1800 they had a daughter Mary Ann
"Polly". Polly married James R. Taber.
Dorinda Cannon is said to have been born in Granville, NC.
Please, any help with her parents and documenting the place of her birth
would be helpful.
Best Regards,
Betty,
TX
I have the 3rd James Cannon, born 1797, lived in Laurens County (just above
Newberry County), wife Juretta ?, and can't find anything on him or his
family! There was a William Cannon on the 1790 and 1800 censuses who was
likely his father, but I have no other information on him. I tend to
believe they came from the Newberry Cannon group, but just can't connect
them.
Looking at all the names in the Newberry James Cannon group, it reminded me
of all the confusion with same names in different families. My grandfather
was John Henry, my gr gf was Nathan,
2nd gr gf was James (above). The names Lydia, Sara, William, Benjamin,
Frank, Clarence, Pinckney, Bowman, are some of the familiar names of my
ancestors.
I live in Greenwood, SC near Laurens and Newberry and all my family stayed
here in this area and it is still hard to get information.
Good Luck to everyone!

Dear Michele,
I went to the website you suggested and found the same material on "your"
James Cannon that we had found in Charleston at the genealogical library -- so no
new material after all. You already have what we found last month. I'm
sorry to get your hopes up.
I keep hoping more material will pop up in the future.
Yours,
Donna
Dear Michele,
In April my husband and I were in Charleston and suddenly realized that we
were in a good place to do some research on James Cannon. Unfortunately (for
us) since we hadn't planned to do it, we xeroxed some lovely information about
your James Cannon, not mine. I still believe they must be related in some way.
There weren't THAT many people living in the 96th district????? Is your
ancestor the one who died in Daviess County, Indiana? I can mail you a copy of
the information we did find, if you want.
Best wishes--
Donna Olsen

I descend from the "other" James Cannon of 96th District who was born in
1755. Yours is the easy one :-)
The above at Rootsweb has some great stories and the will of your man.

Interesting...I just read the first part of The Cannon Book, by Clarence Cannon (1958) and, aside from the genealogies given, it matches The Cannon Book (1977) by Jesse Adams Cannon word for word in the Foreword section. I think what we've got here is a family history that was passed around and edited and adopted by different branches of the same Cannon family, as Jesse's book has the descendants of Joseph Cannon (1760) and Nancy Sitton (1765) and doesn't mention James Cannon and Rachael Stark, whereas, Clarence's book doesn't mention Joseph and Nancy (though there are some Nancys in Clarence's book, none are Nancy Sitton). If nothing else, this may prove a link between these two families; a link I've been unable to prove otherwise. The two books cover different individuals, but it's plain to see from the places and dates (not to mention the family names used) that they deal with two branches of the same North Carolina Cannon family.
What is curious, to me, is that the two authors must have known of each other's work, yet didn't include any mention of the other branch in the book. Unfortunately, this still leaves me to figure out how they are connected.
Gary
Thanks, Jack! I have been looking for a connection between my Cannons
(descended from Joseph Cannon and Nancy Sitton of North Carolina, whose
desendants settled in St. Charles County and some of them in Lincoln County,
Missouri) and the line of James Cannon and Rachel Stark, but have never been
able to find anything in North Carolina that proves theye are linked. This
may help some.
By the way, I have a copy of a handwritten book by the same title (The
Cannon Book), but written by my great-grand uncle Jesse Adams Cannon about
1978. It chronicles the descendants of Joseph and Nancy, though.

Dear Michele,
You're right. The James Cannon who is my ancestor was born 12-11-1762,
married Rachel Starks in 1785, and died 4-30 or 1-20- 1842. His "Invalid" pension
number is 16684. If you have any information that is of help, I would really
appreciate it. Thank you for your interest in any case,
Sincerely,
Donna Olsen

Carolina.
Michele
Does anyone have a copy of The Cannon Book, written by Clarence Cannon in
1958??? I haved a photocopy of page 15, which tells half the story of how James
Cannon came to join the revolutionary Army, but none of us in my branch of the
family have page 16, which finishes the story. It is a marvelous and
memorable passage; If you're interested and don't have it, I can email you the part I
do have.
I would love to have a copy of page 16, or better yet, the entire book, to
pass on to my cousins and their children.
Best wishes--

Hello researchers,
I am hoping a few of you maybe able to help me.
I have 2 pictures of Cannon Ladies. 1 is Mae Cannon, either the daughter
of Thomas McNiel, or Sarah Jane Arnold? she has a son Joe, who marries
Marie? and they have a daughter named Eula- the 2nd picture.
I don't know where, or when the pictures were taken. I am figuring in the
1940's. Eula's picture has no writting, but the back of Mae's says 'Mae
Cannon dad's half sister', dad- would be Raymond Richard McNiel! Raymond was
born in Greene County, Missouri. His parents Thomas Jefferson McNiel b-
Arkansas,, and Sarah Jane Gaddy b- Missouri. Sarah divorced Thomas in 1918
and married William Arnold. They divorced in 1928 Greene County, Mossouri.
Does any of this strike an bells for anyone?????
Thanks, Tori

Where did your Cannons live? When did they arrive?
Do you have any Littleberry PATTERSON's in your line?
