I apologize for not understanding earlier as to which Thomas and William you
were referring to. I received an article abt a year ago which may help.
Here are some highlights: "In America there have been three outstanding
branches of the family. The Maryland branch became the ancestors of the
Virginia and North Carolina Cannons. The South Carolina branch was founded
by Col Daniel Cannon, born July 10, 1726, presumably in Scotland. He was
among the first settlers of Charleston SC.....He owned "Oakland". ...The SC
GAZETTE of OCT 5, 1802 contains notice of his death....This inf and a list
of his descendants were found in HAPPY HERITAGE by Lyndon Lee Cannon,
published 1943. The book is in the Library of Congress. Another branch
sprang from Samuel Cannon.....He immigrated to NC and reared his family
there. Samuel Cannon's son Horace Franklin Cannon moved his family to IN in
1840. The MD branch....two or three collateral lines. One was Minos Cannon
b MD 1756 d Williamson Co TN May 10, 1829; m Letitia Thompson Guilford Co
NC....had four sons: Robert T Cannon, Newton, Minos Jr, Clement. Thomas B
Cannon was the son of Clement Cannon." My husband's branch of Cannons
migrated from MD to NC before 1765.....Thomas Cannon came to Md 1663....had
s Thomas Cannon Jr, William, John. William m FEB 18, 1695 Mary Willen.
They had three sons: William m December 2? 1721, Frances Johnson; Robert m
July 8, 172?Sophia Johnson; James m DEC 24, 1724 Mary Boren.
Let me know if this is what you were looking for. I have other inf. Fran

I'd like to jump in here with one bit of information that I have not been
able to connect to anything else.
In the 1790 census of Charleston, SC there are two Daniel CANNONs.....that
is, one is listed as Daniel, the other as Dan CANNON. One is the obvious very
famous, well documented Daniel CANNON, of St. Phillips Parish. The other (Dan
CANNON) is located in Goose Creek Parish and has a different household makeup.
I never found what happened to this other Dan CANNON. Anyone know??? or
could he be the missing link in someone's research???
Janice (Cannon)
Wilma, I am very interested what documents you might have showing and/or
proving that your CANNON line came to KY from VA. Also, any documents on the
Scottish source for your line.
It will be of great help, thanks,
Janice (Cannon)
Since this topic seems to be drawing a number of Cannon researchers at the
moment, I will repost in hope that someone may have some information about my
brick wall. My gr gr grandmother was Martha Frances Cannon, born about 1819 in
Virginia, who married John Henry Clarke May 5, 1835 in Caroline County, VA.
Her children were named as follows: Joye, James Henry, John Zachary, Sarah J.,
George William, Strother Wallace, Alice B., Hannah Frazier, Fredric, Mattie
C., Addison L., and Hallam. She died 12 January 1899 at Massaponax,
Spotsylvania County, Virginia. It is possible that Ira Cannon, who lived in
Spotsylvania at this time was her brother. I have found no evidence of the identity of
her parents. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.
Deborah Clarke Holland
I am willing to talk to anyone about my Robert Cannon. I have been
looking for where he came from and his parents for years.
My Robert Cannon Sr. and wife Elizabeth was in Washington Co., Ky.
about 1800 and stayed there until probably after 1820. I have no birth
or death date or places for him or his wive. They were probably born
about 1740. I have 11 Children listed, but I know of only 5 children
that are theirs. They are Martha Ann (Nancy), Mary, Thomas, John P. and
Robert Jr. Robert Jr. is in my line, and was born in Pa. March 17, 1780.
Any help?
