I found this site on the internet and thought I would share it with you all. It's called the Cilvil War Soldiers and Sailors System. I just typed in the Surname Cannon and it gave me 1,879 returns. You can type in a first name as well to narrow it down. Not much info is given, but it's a start and perhaps you can mail off for more information. Atlesat we have the numbers.

I have just posted my Cannon/Canon genealogy on line at Rootsweb. This includes all the names of the Timothy Cannon/Canon line for the first 7 generations. There are 346 Cannons and 83 Canons. The program looks a little weird and I don't know what I clicked, but you will have to hunt by surname. You will not be able to down the descendant chart, sorry. I wish you all would take a look at it and contact me with any further information relating to this research. If any of you are related, I would be more than happy to exchange information.

"High Flight"
By John G. McGee
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the sky on
laughter silvered wings.
Sun ward I've climbed to join the tumbling mirth of sun split
clouds and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of.
Wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence hovering
there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft
through footless halls of air.
Up, up, the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the windswept
heights with easy grace where never lark nor even eagle flew and while
with silent lifting mind, I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of
space, put out my hand and touched the face of God.

FAMILY NOTES
HUSBAND NOTES: John CANNON
General:
PENSION RECORD OF JOHN CANNON, #30309.
John enlisted in service June 1, 1775, served three months as private in
Captain
James Davis' South Carolina Company in pursuit of the indians in Georgia.
After
returning from that tour, he was apprenticed to learn the blacksmith trade at
which he continued until Sept. 1, 1980, when he volunteered, served in
Captain
James Dillard's company, Colonel Levi Casey's South Carolina regiment until
June
1, 1781, then volunteered, served under Major Farr in Colonel Brandon's South
Carolina regiment and was at the Siege of Ninety Six. He then served under
Colonel Benjamin Killgore in the South Carolina Troops until the last of
July,
following engaged in protecting the inhabitants from the depredation of the
Indians.
He enlisted August 1, 1781, and served in Captain James Dillard's company,
under
Major John Ford in the South Carolina troops until the Autumn of 1782. He
stated
that he served at different times on thirteen separate tours. He was in a
number
of skirmishes but he did not state the places where they took place. John
Cannon
was allowed pension on his application executed May 10, 1845, while a
resident
of Hart County, Kentucky. Thomas Cannon, soldier's son, was living in Hart
County, Kentucky in 1843. Reference was made to other children but their
names
were not given. In 1843, soldier's brother, James Cannon, was living in
Daviess
County, Indiana. No further family data are shown in the claim. (James
Cannon,
gave a sworn statement regarding his brothers service, on one occasion he
states
he was with him, serving under Capt. Killgore and Major John Ford in 1781,
how
long he can't say, 6 and 1/2 months. James X Cannon).
......................
The Library of Virginia has the Rev. War records online and it seems I saw
this John as having "no" children. Have you seen this or was it some other
war he was in.....the Indian Wars?
I did some research and found in the 1850 census of Hart Co KY the following:
Samuel Cannon 42 KY and family with John Cannon 90 SC living with him
William Cannon 51 KY and family...oldest son named John (son or grandson)
James 60 VA and Ellender 76 KY (mother? and widow of anohter son of old John)
Anyway...appears he left descendants...not sure exactly who belongs to who,
but
there are enough of them there.

There has been a lot of James Cannon's showing up on this list. Does anyone know if any are the James Cannon Born abt 1790? Don't know where, was supposed to be married to Elender or Ellen last name unknown. Had a daughter named Mary Polly Cannon who was born abt 1815 and died in (Probable Hart County) Kentucky in 1853. Polly was married to Edward Denison Sr. and hard 7 children, Rebecca, Millie, Mary, Eddings, Elender, James and Edward. Dates of the births of the children range from 1838 to 1850. I know the Denison family were in what is now Hart County Ky and owned land that is now a part of Mammoth Cave National Park. The area was known as Denison, Ky.
