Here are a couple of sources on the Georgia angle. As for the death of
Daniel Cannon Sr. It is listed in the St Philips Parish as buried August
28, 1743. "Daniel Cannon reveals that at about the age of 10 he arrived at
St. Simon's Island, Georgia, with his father, Daniel. a carpenter, and his
older brother, Joseph. They were listed among the earliest settlers of
Frederica in 1736. Shortly after their arrive Joseph wrote to Henry
Flitcroft, a London architect, describing the island, progress of
settlement, the primitive shelter they had built for themselves. The letter
contains Joseph's statement of pride in what they had accomplished: ...we
are the forwardest of any person in this place and live...happy and...well
contented and hope so to continue... For a time the father prospered as a
housewright; it is interesting, however, that even though he was a carpenter
he was instrumental in convincing a number of the settlers that they should
build their houses of brick. their farm on the north end of the island,
which the Cannons stocked with cattle and hogs, became known as Cannon's
Point. The Spanish threat and other difficulties caused many of the
settlers to leave within a few years, however, and in 1730 the Cannons moved
to Charleston. Joseph reached his majority in 1742 and returned to England;
Daniel Sr. died in August of 1743, and the younger Daniel, seventeen,
remained in South Carolina." Source: The Museum of Early Southern
Decorative Arts, Vol IX, Number 1 May, 1983. In addition to the Registry
of St Philips Parish, A List of Early Settlers of Georgia (above), General
Oglethorpe's Georgia Colonial Letters 1733-1743 Vol 1 p 282. and A Brief
Account of the Causes that have Retarded the Progress of the Colony of
Georgia in America which was from the Collections of the Colony of Georgia
Historical Society Vol II p 110. are used as sources for this information.
Seems to be well documented.

Hi has anyone got an Ellen Cannon in their family tree? I would love to know where she came from and who her family was. She was my g.g.g.g.grandmother. She must have been born in the first half of the 1800s.
Thanks Stella
