>Info I have starts with will of Elijah Williams, mentioning his nephew J.
M. Canaan, of Cazenovia, Wi. . The 1926 will left $3144. to the nephew. I
haven't had much luck finding ref to J. M. Canaan.
>I found a James of Jefferson, Wi. d-1987. My Queries to Wi. haven't been
answered. A 1920 soundex gave me John Canaan age 73 b. Oh. with grandson
Thomas G. Shea. living in Richland co. Wi..
>The above J. M. Canaan should be the son of Hannah williams & John Canaan m
1864. I guess I'm trying to hook-up to the Wi. side, because of the name in
the will.
>There is a John Canaan first settler in Lynn twp. Hardin co. Oh.(Hardin co.
Oh. History) It said some of his ch. were Miritta/ William/Jehu/Washington.
Yes I want to share info. In the mid 1880 some families of Jackson twp.
Shelby co. Oh. traveled west to Wi. with the Seventh Day Baptists.
>Hope to hear from you.

The 1850 Federal Census for DeKalb County, Indiana was enumerated by Egbert
B. Mott, a prominent attorney who lived in Auburn. For the most part, his
handwriting is legible and the information seems to be as accurate as what
was given to him. But occasionally information entered was obviously or
possibly inaccurate. Where such occurs it is noted in the remarks field.
Mr. Mott often used abbreviations for states which may not clearly identify
the states intended. The following are the most common one to two letter
abbreviations he used throughout all townships in DeKalb County.
"Ia" or "I" - Indiana
"Ky" - Kentucky
"O" - Ohio
"Md" - Maryland
"NY" - New York
"Pa" or "P" - Pennsylvania
"Va" - Viginia
"Vt" - Vermont
