The following bounced to me the list administrator and I am forwarding it with some
cosmetic deleting of extra wording.
>Hi Jamie! My maiden name is Canning as well. I was reading your
e-mail
listed below and found it surprising because you have several names in your
relatives that are in my family. My name is Virginia. My father's dad's
name was Arthur. My father had a brother that died very young. We never
knew he had a brother until my mother died and I started working her
genealogy, and found one sentence typed in it that said dad had a brother
that died very young. No name was given. I have been researching our
family history for 21 years now, and still haven't found him. Dad's
grandfather's name was Jacob, and his great-grandfather's name was John
Canning.
John was the emigrant that came over. He landed in Philidelphia, PA, and
settled in Beverly, NJ. He married a Deborah (Nee?) she was born in 1850.
I've traced her until she was 70. I cannot establish when John was born. I
put him coming to the US around 1934 when he was 20 years old, which puts
his birth around 1814. Jacob was born in 1837 in Beverly, NJ. I have a
copy of his Civil War records which lists all his children and parents, John
and Deborah Canning. I also cannot establish when John died, except his was
not listed with Deborah on the 1850 US Census. Deborah lists two other
children, Deborah Louise and John R Canning.
I'm thinking that we may not be related because I don't know where your
people are located, but it sounds like in the south. It's just uncanny
about the names. If you care to respond, I would appreciate it. Who knows,
maybe we are connected. Virginia Canning Harris

Hello Jerry,
My father James Bernard Canning was the youngest of John Chester
Canning and
Helen Elizabeth Johnson Canning.
There was a sister named Grace Virginia Canning born Spt. 20,
1923.
Not mentioned on this site are Margaret (who died berfore she was t10
according to my late father)and Arthur his brother who was 7 years older
than Dad. He was known as Uncle Buddy and was a Chef by profession. He
lived in Arkansas, Kansas with his wife Alice. They had no children. I
remember dad mentioning 8 kids in his family but can not remember the other
sibling... I remember Aunt Gertie and Aunt Grace, Uncle Eddie and Uncle
Austin.
Dad said he was about 10 when his dad committed suicide because of
having been exposed to Mustard gas in WWI and he was slowly dying from the
effects of it. My dad James died from Agent Orange 10 years after he
retired from the USAF after 23 years of service. I am named after my
dad---Jamie.
Please contacat me if you know any other family. I remember also
that we
had a cousin Mike in Arizona or thereabouts who was a Police Officer? My
brother's name is Mike also.
