Charles, finding something on a website is only a directive to search further. Do not
believe it is true just because it is in a book or on the Net. Take the time to
authenticate your research with WILLS, Court documents, parish registers, and the material
in the Parish Chest. Those documents will authenticate your line. Believe me, many
people try to fit their family into the myths they have heard or books written without
verifying the source of said material. Finding the documented history of your family is
much more fun, more satisfying than heresay. One of my cousins has 150 Canning Wills and
is collecting every one he can find in England. Since some of the Irish Cannings did
connect with the Wiltshire Cannings in England, there is a good possiblity of their Wills
being probated also in England. Am glad my Cannings hung out ONLY in England and were
Protestants...all records fairly easy to find.
I have been researching the Cannings since 1978 and only went astray when I relied on
material with no apparent documentation.
Cheers
Betty
