Hello Marcia,
I was rather lucky in having my Irish ancestor immigrating at such a late date. The names
you mention don't appear familiar and rather sadly the time period you are looking in
is prior to civil registration and any available census records.
The only suggestions I can make is do a search of Tithe Applotment registers which may
show you some likely areas for your Canning ancestors. In Counties Derry and Donegal the
Canning name is fairly common.
Do the earlier US census records give a location for birth and I have heard that this
information is also given in the Naturalisation records, but I am not certain when these
documents began.
Apart from these ideas (which you have most probably tried already) the only other idea
would be an attempt to find the actual ship list. Like finding a needle in a haystack!
Also if you can discover Mary's maiden name this might be sufficiently unique to help
with a search of the Tithe records which were done about 1830.
Sorry I can't be of more help to you.
Regards Simon
