CANNING, Mrs. Ada M. (Peck) of Portage, MI
Died Sunday afternoon, November 2, 1997. Mrs Canning was born May 11, 1902 in Wabash,
Indiana, a daughter of Patrick and Mary (Brady) Ivory. She had been a Kalamazoo resident
most of her life, and was a member of the Oakwood United Methodist Church. She was
preceded in death by her first husband, James Peck in 1932; her second husband, Howard
Canning in 1948; a son Edwin Oliver in 1959; 2 infant children; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; and
2 grandsons. She is survived by 4 children, Robert (Opal) Peck of Vicksburg, James
"Bill" (Carol) Peck of Parchment, Mary (Harold) Ellard of Kalamazoo, and Joan
(Charles) Haines of Vicksburg; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a
great-great-grandson; a sister-in-law, Bessie Roberts of Portage; and several nieces,
nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 1 o'clock Friday from the Langeland
Family Funeral Homes Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9
p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Vicksburg Ce!
metery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Michigan Lupus
Foundation, or the Kalamazoo Lions Club.
