MARION: O. Muriel Pilley, age 86, of Marion, Ohio passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011,
at 3:28 p.m. in the Marion Manor Nursing Home.
She was born in Flint, Michigan on January 8, 1925 to the late John and Sybil (Yager)
Canning.
Muriel married Elwyn H. Pilley in Flint, Michigan on April 26, 1952 and he preceded her in
death on March 20, 2005 in Marion. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church
in Marion and the First United Methodist Church of Lakeland, FL, where she was very active
in their church functions. Muriel served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a hospital
volunteer in Lakeland, FL.
While living in Marion, she was employed as a cook for the Marion City Schools and worked
as a bookkeeper for the Marion Power Shovel Co.
Surviving are two daughters: Norma Jean (William) McCaulley and Joann Louise (Harry)
Thompson both of Marion, OHIO; a sister, Peggy McFarlane of Lapeer, MI; four
grandchildren, Michael & wife, Angie, and William & wife, Beth McCaulley, and
Shannon & Heather Thompson; and 16 great grandchildren.
Along with her parents; and husband; Muriel was preceded in death by a brother, John
Raymond Canning.
A memorial service will be held for Muriel on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in
the Epworth United Methodist Church. Pastor Colleen Ogle will officiate.
Donations in Muriel's name may be given to the Epworth United Methodist Church
Preeschool & Day Care, 249 E. Church St., Marion, Ohio, 43302.
