I have since discovered that I am not related to this family but I will give you the
information I have on William Canning and Lucy Mason. I discovered this information by
accident and for the life of me I cannot remember from what website, but I am sure you
will be able to find more information from the following.
There were 12 children born to William Canning and Lucy Mason in Australia.
(1)Thomas born circa 1843 Campbellfield, Victoria and died in 1921. He married Mary Hill
in 1870.
(2) Mary (Annie) born circa 1845 and died in 1931. She married William Millar Wood from
Yorkshire in 1873 and had 3 children, Henrietta, born 1874, Edwin, born 1878 and
Frederick, born 1881. Edwin married Caroline Angin in 1904.
(3) (Lucy) born circa 1847 and died 1939. She married John Fisher in 1878 and had 4
Children, Angelina born 1879, Edward born 1881, Albert born 1883 and Florence born 1885.
(4) Elizabeth (Ada) born circa 1849 and died in 1892. She married Charles Cook in 1871 and
had 2 children , Ada born 1871 and Frank born 1874.
(5) William born circa 1852 and died in 1931. He married Mary Beardmore.
(6) Frederick born 1853 and died 1951. He married Ann Phillips in 1874 and had 1 child,
Rupert Mason Canning born in 1876.
(7) Caroline born 1855 and died 1898. She married John Stranger in 1881.
(8) Alice born 1857 and died 1940. She married William Harding in 1882 and had 4 children,
Francis born 1898, Muriel born 1888, William born 1890 and Edward born 1895.
(9) Alfred born 1860 and died 1936. He married Edith Maude Butcher in 1884.
(10) Henry born 1862 and died 1927.
(11) Charles born 1864 and died 1932. He married Margaret Hutchinson in 1888.
(12) Walter born 1867 and died 1931.
Alfred was a famous character as it was he who was responsible for The Canning Stock
Route. If you google his name you will get a lot more information on him. There is an
exhibition on The Canning Stock Route on display in the museum in Canberra at the moment.
I have some further bits of information on the children and grandchildren of William and
Lucy, places of birth etc. If you need them just email me and I will forward them to you.
I hope the above information is of some benefit to you.
