CANNING, William Marr "Bill" - 84, Chester Basin, died August 26, 2002, in
Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late
Arthur and Agnes (Marr) Canning. Bill was a miner at Springhill Mines in the 1930s before
moving to Chester Basin in 1939. He was employed
with Sears Canada for nearly 30 years at the Halifax store. He had a great love for hockey
and baseball especially the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. He was a member of St.
John's Anglican Church and a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Everett Branch
88, Chester Basin. He was a veteran of the Second World War. Bill will be remembered for
playing Santa Claus for the children in the local Christmas parades. He will be sadly
missed by son, Billy; brother-in-law, Edsel Eisnor; housekeeper, Mary and her daughter,
Alexis; sisters, Mary Clark, Napean, Ont.; Eleanor Steiner, Stroud, Ont.; brother, Donald,
Shediac, N.B.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Beryl Marie
(Eisnor); brother, Arthur; sisters, Margaret and Loretta. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today
in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Funeral service 2:30 p.m. Thursday in St. John's
Anglican Church, Chester Basin, Rev. Linda MacDonald officiating, assisted by Rev. Michael
Mitchell officiating. I!
