Dear Ken, from your older posting on this site it appears you are particularly well
informed on the genealogy of the Canning family, thus this is a long shot but here goes.
I am trying to research some gaps in my mothers family history. My mother (Pamela Coney
nee Canning)is at an advanced age now & only yesterday mentioned that her father was
very reticent to dicuss his forebears. My mother Pamela (b1926) & her brothers Tony
& Ian were born to Carlisle Martineau Canning (b1887 d1953) & Dorothy Verity in
the USA (Texas & California). CMC & DV met on a ship travelling from the UK to the
USA in 1921 & lived in the USA & Canada before returning to England in 1938.
CMC's father was a Moses Canning (b1856 d1912)from Douglas on the Isle of Man.
Apparently MC married twice but I havent been able to find out much more about his family
or antecedants. My mother tells me that her father CMC went to Rugby school &
subsequently served with the British military in Persia (Iraq) prior to meeting DV. I have
found on a manx website some references to MC's funeral service & him having
married twice, his first wife Jane having died in 1889 & of 3 children Gertru!
de (d1958) & Spencer (d1886) & Thomas (d1889) having died as infants. With no
reference to CMC
Any further information you may have on this strand of the family history would be most
warmly welcomed. Our family now lives in Australia.
Best Regards Christopher Coney
