DNA Surname Study Report
Of our ten test results to date, six fall into three groups, and two of the four awaiting
a match are a Mc variation. It is really quite remarkable that such a broad project, with
only ten results, is already on the way to identifying three lines!
Recent results include two participants with Irish roots (no matches yet). These
participants live in Canada and the UK. We hope more Irish participants will join the
project soon. And, of course, our McKenna (Irish roots) and McKenney participants are
eager for some of their "cousins" (other McK______ folks) to test, and a
McKinney just ordered a test kit. Two U. S. participants whose "Dutch" line
was confirmed by DNA are working hard to find evidence of their common ancestor - are
there others out there who think they descend from that old "Dutch"
Kinne/Kinney/Kenney/etc line?
We need a "tie breaker" on the "Thomas" of England line. Two
participants state they descend from grandsons of Thomas - one from Henry of MA and
another from Alexander of CT - but they don't match. A participant with a close DNA
match to the Henry line participant can't break the tie because his line only goes to
1820. Another Henry descendant has agreed to test but we need more participants from the
Henry and Alexander lines to help resolve this!

There is a link to Frequently Asked Question near the end of the results page. The DNA
surname project for Canney, Kinney, McKinney & ALL variations was announced on this
board last fall. Regular updates are posted to the RootsWeb surname lists. Please contact
me if you are thinking about testing or have questions.
