Is there documentation (as in primary evidence) of the names of the parents of Henry of MA
and/or Alexander of CT?
We know, of course, there's a tradition in some families that they are brothers and
that the parents are John and Sarah Cheever of England who settled in MA.
And this information has appeared in family history publications. But do any of the
publications have the source of the information? And if so, has anyone found that
evidence?
Hinckley's 1969 monograph contains this undocumented quote, "My father was ye
John Keney out of Norfolk In ye olde England, and my mother was ye Sarah Cheever [etc.all
the way to Sir Tom]" Does this first appear in Hinckley? Or did she obtain it from
an earlier book? Is it in Robertson's 1942 Keayne [etc], book (I have a photocopy of
the book but the first 52 pages are missing - have ordered the complete book). If so, does
Robertson indicate the source of this quote? It does not appear to be in Robertson's
1947 Henry and Ann Kinne book.
I've seen mention of a baptism record for Henry in Holland - has that been found? In
which family history does it first appear?
Does Alexander appear as a brother of Henry in Robertson's 1942 Keayne book? Some
other earlier publication? He does appear in Hinckley's 1969 monograph.
Those of you who have studied the Roscoe Keeney publications: have you seen additional
information about evidence (excluding family tradition or undocumented family histories)
on this subject?
Early results in our DNA study indicate no relationship between two participants who
believe they are descendants of Henry and Alexander. But we do not know for certain
(without more tests) if these are the true DNA signatures for each person. If so, they
are not related. However, we do not have primary source documentation for the early
lineage of either participant and the information could be faulty. OR a false paternal
event could have occurred in either line in a descendant of Henry and/or Alexander but it
would have been before 1820 in Henry's case and before 1712 in Alexander's case -
since each participant has a match with another participant with lines back to those
dates. (With enough participants from distant cousins that sort of thing can actually be
figured out). Thus, even the DNA brings us back to the question:
Is there documentation (as in primary evidence) as to the names of the parents of Henry of
MA and/or Alexander of CT?
