James A. Canney, EAST WAKEFIELD

EAST WAKEFIELD-James A. Canney, 58, of 271 Sparhawk Terrace, died Friday at Concord
Hospital following an automobile accident in Chichester. He was born in Haverhill, Mass.,
and lived there for many years. He lived in East Wakefield for the past 15 years. He
attended schools in Haverhill and graduated from the Haverhill Trade School in 1963.
Canney worked as a self-employed plumber before he was appointed as the state plumbing
inspector for New Hampshire in 1987 after moving to East Wakefield. He was known across
New Hampshire and Vermont for the seminars he conducted on state plumbing codes as well as
the courses that he taught at vocational and technical high schools. He was a member of
Holy Rosary Parish in Rochester and the Service Employees International Union. He was a
former member of St. Joseph Parish in Haverhill. He enjoyed boating, lobstering, hunting
and fishing. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Donna (Langlais) Canney; two sons,

d Kevin Canney, both of East Wakefield; a daughter, Nicole Wilson of Wakefield; a brother,
Bradford "Michael" Canney of Atkinson; and nine grandchildren. A daughter,
Laurel Ann LeRoux, died in 2000. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 5 to 8 p.m. at
Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow. Funeral services
will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will
follow at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, Haverhill. Memorial donations may be made to the
Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire, 66 Hanover St., Suite 101, Manchester, 03101.
Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are. This is here
as a lasting memorial for Mr. Canney.
