Canny males - or ladies who have a living Canny male in their family - might
be interested in the Y-DNA Surname Study. I've seen one report of a Canny
line being linked to the same ancestry reported for old Henry Keny of
Salem, MA. There's no documentation for that but now there is a Y-DNA
signature established for direct paternal line descendants of that line - so
if a Canny male tested and matched - that would connect the families.
Testing has it limitations but some times it does provide a break through.

Subject: [CANNEY] Looking for George Canny's family
Hello cousins,
My mother's maiden name was Canny and I have enjoyed finding many cousins
over the past few years.
But............I and other Canny cousins can never seem to find the
parents
of George Canny and even his wife's name.
My George Canny was born abt 1756 in Pa..............parents
unknown.....some Canny cousins have tried to link George to Joseph
Canney/Canny but I do not
believe anyone has found any proof of this.
George Canny had William Canny......and William had Thomas CannySr. and
Thomas Canny Jr was my grandfather.
George Canny died in Athens Co. Ohio.
If you are a Canny cousins or have any information on George I would love
to
hear from you.
