The following citation is the last known (to me) information about John Keny, d. Milton,
MA, 1693:
Keeney, Keny Family of Milton, Mass., and Nova Scotia, Canada
NEGHR 108:113 (1954) p. 113 ---
Compiled by Mrs. Florance L. K. Robertson (Florance Keeney Robertson)
Therein, Robertson "presumes" that Arthur Keayne was the father of this John.
She also "presumes" that Arthur was a relative of Christopher Keayne of
Cambridge, MA and of Capt. Robert Keayne of Boston, covered in her 1942 book (not to be
confused with her 1947 book about Henry). When she compiled the data, she had no further
information regarding the ancestry of these families.
This week a Y-DNA Kinney participant reporting a genealogy to John Keny, d. Milton, MA,
1693, matched the Y-DNA signature we have established for Henry Kinne. Of course,
there's always the possibility of an error in the reported genealogy, but if it is
correct (and it appears to be), then this is exciting news. I think Robertson would be
thrilled! The match can not prove Henry was a direct ancestor of John - it can only tell
us that direct line male descendants of Henry and John share an unknown Kinney male
ancestor (probably Henry but could be an unknown brother or uncle, etc., of Henry).
One of John Keny's Nova Scotia "Kinney" descendants (whose mother tracks to
a Mayflower line) came to Hawaii in the mid 1800's and married a Native Hawaiian
woman. They were the progenitors of a well known Hawaii Kinney line. When I moved to
Hawaii (from California) many years ago and became interested in genealogy and then in
Y-DNA, it was my hope to work with Hawaii Kinney descendants to establish a signature for
the Hawaii Kinney family. So,it is quite a thrill to have a Hawaii Kinney line descendant
test and match Henry's signature.
