There may not be a relationship, but today in a consignment shop I located an intricately
handmade sampler commemorating the death in Blackpool on January 19, 1896 of Arabella
Cannell, wife of Thomas Cannell. Arabella was in her 22nd year. The sampler was made by
"her aunt, M. Fish, for Mona Cannell." I am not experienced in UK research, but
I did find that a Thomas Cannell family originally from the Isle of Man, was on the 1891
census of Lancaster in the civil parish of West Derby, Walton parliamentary borough, St
Margarets ecclesiastical parish residing at 222 Whitefield Road. Thomas was 52 and a
breadbaker, his wife Emma was 46. They had 14 children, including a Thomas Albert, age
27, and a Mona F., age 7. The sampler was somewhat pricey at $295.00, but descendants may
wish to know of its existence. The only other bit of family information was that Arabella
was interred on January 23, 1896 in Blackpool cemetery. Please contact me if you are
interested; I doubt that!
anyone other than a family member would want to buy this item.
