Tricia - my CANNELLs ended up in London - my great-grandfather was a Butcher
and had a butcher shop. His family had come up from Cringleford, Norfolk.
They were in Bethnal Green in 1871 and then moved to Rotherhithe etc.

Subject: Re: CANNELL in Australia 1900 to now
Hi Maggi
Really sorry, but I don't think I can help, although if you have any
Cannell
info going further back ...
My family Cannell connection ends with Sarah Cannell who was born in
Bethnal
Green, London in 1828. She was still alive at the 1901 census. She
and her ancestors were all connected with the silk weaving industry in the
East End of London and I know she had a brother Thomas, but am not sure
about any other siblings and have no info of any emigrating to Australia,
I'm afraid.
I know there is a branch of Cannells in the Isle of Man and also in
Ireland, I
believe. My branch came from Normandy in France as a result of
religious persecution (Huguenots).
I hope you find some (more) useful information - these brickwalls are so
frustrating, aren't they?

Just thought I would post my brickwall again.
Eric Wilfred CANNELL was born about 1919 in Randwick NSW to William Louis
and
Ethel Maud CANNELL.
He lived with my aunt Olive Elizabeth CARMICHAEL around 1943-1945 but they
were
living in Hurstville in 1944 when they had a daughter Vera Maureen.
Olive
died
in 1945 when they were living in Campbelltown and Eric in 1972 in
Casino
but he
was living Lismore at the time.
I have found that Vera Maureen CARMICHAEL used the name MEDCALF until 1973
His sister Vera Maude CANNELL was born about 1916 and married Thomas
Wilcox
McMULLEN/S about 1930 at Randwick.
Hoping there is a relative out there that will have some information no
matter
how miniscule.
