Does anyone know anything about the names in this letter found in my G
Grandfather estate?
Found in estate of Robert Cannell. Letter mailed to Robert Cannell, Mendon,
Illinois, USA from the Isle of Man
March 4, 1911
Dear Uncle,
Just a few lines hoping you are keeping well as it leaves us all well at
present. I suppose you thought we were all dead in Isle of Man but we have
been always thinking of you. You must excuse us for not writing dear Uncle.
I don't know what you will think if us but we were waiting for one and
another of us to write and that was the way it has been delayed. We are
longing to see you in the IOM, Uncle dear sometime so we will keep our
hearts up.
I must not forget my cousins, Charlie and Robert. I hope they are both
well. I must not forget my other cousins. I forget her name but hope to
hear from her soon. I often wish to get to America. There are a great many
leaving our Island every week especially farm hands. We are very busy on
our farm now we have 2 farms at present. We were living in the Speke (?)
when we heard from you last. This farm is adjoining the Speke we live in
now.
We are very busy at present getting the crops put down. We are sowing corn
now and getting the potatoes in this month. I am a dressmaker by trade. I
have to walk 6 miles every day to business. I go to Douglas. I suppose,
Uncle you have not forgot Douglas yet. I am about tired of the IOM. Your
hear nothing but America or Canada over here. It won't be long till all the
Manx people well be all gone from the island. When are you coming to the
Isle of Man? We would glad to see you or any of the family. I am sure a
sight of you, dear Uncle, would do us good. I am sure you are welcome to
come over and stay as long as you like. It was my Aunt Hannah who wrote to
you last. You have a lot of relations in the isle of Man. I couldn't
explain them all at present still they know about their Uncle and cousins
in USA.
A Manx gentleman from Baldwin wishes to be remembered to you Dear Uncle. It
is John Kelly, the Weaver. He says he remembers you well. I have enclosed a
sprig of ivy which grows on our house. Hoping to hear from you, dear Uncle
by return post.
I will tell you more news again about the Isle of Man. All wishing to be
remembered to you and cousins so now I will close for this time with best
love from all at Mount Murray form your loving niece,
May Mawson
