It is a worm virus that affects MICROSOFT only and if you receive a message
saying 'I Love You' or 'Love Letter for You' , do not open it but delete
it
immediatly.
Apparantly it is a nasty variation of the worm type virus and is similar to
the Melissa virus. Unlike Melissa it will attach itself to every address in
your address book (not just the first 50)and thus send itself worldwide. It
has apparantly caused chaos. It is too new to be covered by most anti-virus
software so you can't rely on your virus checker with this one.
Rootsweb screening should ensure that it does not reach the list - but if
you are affected you will not be able to post. Please check all private
messages that you receive and messages to non-rootsweb lists. Receiving a
love letter might ruin your day!
General rule of thumb - never open unknown attachments especially those
ending .exe. Delete them or save them to disc first.
Buy a virus checker - it won't protect you against very new viruses and
worms but will protect you against some of the old ones which are still
doingthe rounds such as Happy.exe
