Message Board Post:
Some time ago, in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, I was looking for records
relating to the emigration of Thomas Cannell of the Isle of Man to the United States. I
found an entry in the 1868 LDS Emigration Register (dated June 30) from Liverpool,
England, concerning Thomas and two daughters, Margaret (22) and Mary Ann (20). Likewise,
I found a Port of New York Immigration Record, dated 13 July 1868, same ship
"Minnesota," for Thomas Cannell and Mary (22) and "Mary" (20). They
traveled to Omaha, Laramie, and Salt City, where Thomas died in 1910, Margaret married
James Moyle, and Mary Ann married George Hadley. However, it appears that Mary Ann was
not the daughter of Thomas Cannell who died in Salt Lake City in 1910 but of Thomas
Cannell who died in the Isle of Man in 1892. I am aware that I am suffering from
"Manx Common Name Fatigue" so I ask for help in sorting out these Cannells from
the Isle of Man.
