Thanks to David and Catherine for their replies to my query re. my
husband's great grandfather John Cann. I think one of the problems is the
name John. Every family seems to have at least one by that name.
I have joined the Devon list and have had some replies, but just haven't
been able to fit them in.
Thanks again.
Shirley...

My husband's great grandfather was John Cann born 1824 in England, married
to
Hannah Wilson (also born England in 1828) in Cobourg, Ontario on 24
January 1846.
Trying to find their place of origin in England. I believe he had
five
brothers, Richard born c1826 in England, Thomas, Isaac, Henry and Samuel all
born in Canada.
John & Hannah had ten children. Mary Ann c1847, Susan Elizabeth
c1850,
William Henry c1852, Emmaline c1854, Samuel Wilson c1856, Catherine Louisa c
1858, George Alfred 12 April 1861 (my husband's grandfather), Frederick
c1863, Clara T. c1861 and Lucille M. c1869.
If anyone recognizes this branch of the Cann family, I would love to share
information with them.
Shirley Horner, Port Hope, Ontario.

Shirley,
I have an awful lot of John Canns in my data, even one born in 1824, but
he
was born in Maryland and was not married to Hannah Wilson. I am
surprised,
though, that I could not match it, because John seems to repeat
itself in
our family, but I am afraid I could not make any connection.
I hope someone else can help you. Maybe if we exchanged some information,
perhaps a GEDCOM, we could find a connection with our lines, I don't know.
Have you checked the Cann board on RootsWeb lately? There is some
information posted there as well, so perhaps you can find something there.
Good luck to you. I hope you can find what you are looking for.

Hello Shirley,
The CANN name is very common in Devon England.
Try there or you could post a message on the Cann genealogy forum or even
subscribe
to Devon-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
I have looked at my own line, but do not have any John or Richard born the
dates
you mentioned.
Good luck
Catherine Skeet [nee Cann]

Forgive the question, but is Devon anywhere near Bristol, England? That
is
where my line originated, and I understand there are a number of
Canns
there as well. My line migrated from there to present day Nova Scotia and
New England.
