I am a new subscriber to this list, having just subscribed a couple of days
ago, so I am just saying hello and letting you all know I am now "lurking
in the background" monitoring messages about some of my distant "cousins."
I have been fascinated with genealogy since an aunt let me "get bitten by
the genealogy bug" around 1990, but when I got some computer software
(Family Origins) to get it organized a few years later, I got "infected" to
the point that NO doctor can cure me <g>.
I am descended from Sir Thomas Cann, b. abt. 1565 in Bristol, England,
where he later served as Lord Mayor. He had two sons that I know of, Sir
William (b. abt. 1600) and Rev. John (1595-1667). Sir William also served
as Lord Mayor, while Rev. John apparently was something of "a rebel" who
actively preached against The Crown to the point where I have reason to
believe he was burned at the stake as a heretic (he was a Baptist, not
Church of England). They had a rather effective (although brutal by
today's standards) way of dealing with protests in those days <g>.
I have quite a lot of information on this line, so if anyone out there
would like to "compare notes" and/or exchange information, I would love to
hear from you. I prefer exchanging GEDCOMs, but any form of information is
also quite acceptable. In the meantime, please be aware that I am now
"lurking in the background" and will jump in whenever I feel I can
contribute anything. My genealogy information is at the link below, so
feel free to visit if you wish, but for those of you who actually know what
you are doing at creating a web page, PLEASE do not laugh TOO much at my
first attempt at being a "webmaster." I am very much "in a learning
mode"
in that respect.
