I am always interested in surnames that are in my ancestry, whether I have a
direct connection or not, as somewhere's along the way someone might be
reading these, and have an answer - -
My CANN line is when Mary Cann married James Claypool/e and from this I
descend. After James death Mary married a Steelman. This Mary is, as I
have it, a daughter of John CANN and wife Mary (maiden surname I don't
have). She had brothers John & William (known to me). Mary's father John
CANN is reportedly the son of Robert CANN, Lord Mayor of Bristol & his wife
Deliverance. I have not done any research on this but felt should I write,
and someone read this, hopefully they can let me know if this is correct or
not, so that I do not send it to anyone and muddy up the waters <smile>.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Jennifer,
We meet again. :-) I would be most happy to share any Cann information
that I have with you, but YOU yourself are the source for nearly all of what
I have on this Benjamin Cann or his descendants so I am not sure you would
gain much if I were to send it to you. I have roughly 1,800 Cann entries in
my database though, and I will be glad to share anything you want with you.
What struck my interest with Benjamin is that you say he was born in
Bristol, England and that is where my own line of Canns originated with my
earliest Cann being Sir Thomas Cann who was born in 1578. I also have
information on some Canns from Devon as well, which is not far away, and I
believe they are connected as well. I am convinced that Benjamin also
descends from "the Bristol Canns" as well, if I could only document the
connection. I've been looking for a long time, so God willing someday I
will find it.
If you are interested in another exchange of information, drop me a line
privately and let me know. I would certainly be interested in another such
exchange if you would be. I sent you two messages not very long ago but
without a reply, so if you don't have them or my email address from our
previous exchange, reply here. I am Admin for the Cann list and board, and
do not recommend putting an email address in the open on a message board, so
please think about it before you decide to do that. Looking forward to
hearing from you soon.
