Have your tried the local LDS (Mormon) church and search via their Soundex
system. Via the Soundex all like sounding names are put on cards and the cards
are filmed. The cards cover all counties and by searching through this film,
you'll most likely find the Canfield you want and the county and town and people
living with him. This may not work if he wasn't head of household. But I found
my great grandfather living in a guest house in the back of my uncle's home and
listed separately. So good luck does happen. Just a thought. Sandy Childs

Hello, List!
Can anyone tell me which Canfields went into Ohio? I am trying to fill in
some generations between a John Montgomery Canfield, born to John Canfield
and Dorcus Buell, and MY John Montgomery Canfield.
Scott sent me his family file on Canfields, and wa-la, there was a John
Montgomery Canfield, but his father would have had to have been 67 years old
to have been the dad of MY John Montgomery! Probably not the case. :>)
SO, since Momma's family Bible states, as does the 1880 Kansas census where
my John Montgomery shows up, that he and his father were born in Ohio, I
think that's where I need to hunt. I don't even know which county in Ohio to
look in.
Any help anyone can give would be SO appreciated!
