Susan: I am also researching Canfields and found a couple of great LDS
films that go a long way to filling in all the CAMFIELD/CANFIELD blanks. I
don't have the film number, but it is easy to find via the LDS or via
www.familysearch.com. Just look in the Bibliography or printed material
section of their computers and you will find some films on Canfields
starting with "THE ROSE CANFIELD COLLECTION" or 'DICKERSON,
CANFIELDS....OTHER RELATED FAMILIES", something to that effect. These are
extensive genealogy work books on the Canfield and Dickerson families done
by Dr. Amos Canfield who tracked and researched every Canfield from 1630
era to approx 1880+. Most Canfields derive from what was thought at first
two brothers, MATTHEW & THOMAS CAMFIELD, but later thoughts say they are
cousins. Dr. Canfield died in 1910+ so the work stopped then. One film is
carefully printed Canfield names alphabetically, by first name, with
fathers/mothers name, date of birth, death, marriage, spouse name, and
children, military service, and so much more if there was anything to
report. It is worth a look-see if nothing else. I have copied for my own
use ($$) the MATTHEW CAMFIELD side and while I see losts of Johns with no
middle initial, I see two with middle initial "M". Both with scant
information and do not at first sight appear to be what you are looking for.
But as I said, there are alot of "Johns" in this section. Also, my
information does not include anything on the THOMAS CANFIELD side -- I leave
that to you.
Here is what is listed for "John M.'s on the Matthew Canfield side:
JOHN M. (8th Generation), Son of B.T. & SALINA (SKIDMORE) CANFIELD,
b. 13 Nov. 1864, m. M.B. MACE 10 fEB. 1897. He lived in Braxton, WVA
JOHN M., (9th Gen.) See Lafayette Canfield
Good luck, Sandy Childs jschilds(a)pacbell.net
(Lafayette (7) Canfield, son of Henry & Elizabeth (Johnson), Lafayette
m.------, 1 ch. He died in Mississippi.

Subject: Re: [CANFIELD] Job CANFIELD
Jan, I appreciate you looking out for me and my great-grandpa!
I'll find
him
someday. I know that he was in Lykins County, Kansas (from Ohio,
then
Illinois) in 1860, and in 1898 the family picked up and moved to Harris
County, Texas. I'm not sure yet if John Montgomery died in Kansas or in
Texas. My common sense tells me Texas, but I have no evidence of either
place.
Thanks again!
