Hello Ron. Meet a cousin 5 times removed (At least we may be). I am also a
direct descendant of Silas & Judith (Graham) Canfield who were in VT as of
1777 but left 1800 purportedly for PA where he died (unconfirmed). My
direct descendant is Silas' son, Ira, who I am having a heck a time
confirming birth, marriage or death dates, but I have family tree prepared
in 1927 by a family member which connectes Ira to Silas and all their
descendants.
Other known siblings of Hezekiah Graham were: IRA, JOHN(d.s.), HIRAM ELISHA
(aka Elisha), PHILANDER, ZENAS, DAVID, SILAS, THADDEUS, ORSEMUS (don't know
birth order). More specific information can be obtained on the birth dates
of most of these children in the LDS fiche for 1700 period Manchester,
Bennington Co., VT.
I believe you are right in that Hezekiah Graham, b. Manchester twp,
Bennington Co., VT, m. Mary Rowley in Luzern Co.,PA, is your ancestor. He
m. Mary in PA, 1810 in found in Steuben Co., NY census and moved to Sunman,
Ripley Co, IN before 1820. (Ripley Co. was made out of Dearborn Co.) He is
on the census there with his family thereon until his death which I believe
was in 1860 or so. There is a direct descendant of his, Gene Kincaid in
Australia (formerly of Missouri) who is following his line. I will forward
your note to him. I am sure he would like to talk to you, as will I.
HEZEKIAH'S children are: BETSY, MINOR, RHODA, JOEL, MARY, ELIJAH, LUCY,
GRAHAM, NANCY ELIZA,
Our Canfields go back to Matthew & Sarah (Treat) Camfield in 1639 New Haven,
CT. Yup, Puritans. and I suggest you look at the website:
www.1666newark.com - because he was among the first 30 founding fathers of
Newark, NJ.
I suggest you go to your local LDS and rent the film Rose Canfield
Collection (go to
www.familysearch.com and their periodical section to find
this film). It is a work done by a Samuel Canfield (I believe) completed as
of 1894 and he has an amazing amount of work done on this family and that of
the "other" Camfield family, Thomas & Phoebe (Crane) Canfield.
By the way, I have just made contact yesterday with the descendant of SILAS
Sr's son, SILAS Jr. (not necessarily called that in our records, but that is
what I use to distinguish them).
My IRA was in St. Joseph Co. (?) IN as of 1840 and I have a copy of a letter
from him to brother Thaddeus in 1846 describing the whereabouts of his
family -- but other than that, he is realllllly illusive. There are many
Ira's wondering about in that general time period, but mine is quite hard to
find. So, please, if you run across something after 1840 time period or his
birth date, let me know. Take care. Sandy Childs in California.

Subject: [CANFIELD] Need help with the ancestors & descendants of Hezekiah
GCanfield
My maternal grandfather was Joseph Edgar Canfield (1891 IL - 1948
MO), son
of John Canfield (1861 IL - 1927? IL) & Lois Rebecca Moler (1872 IN -
1903?
IL)
Unfortunately, John walked out on his wife right after my grandfather
was
born; my grandfather never knew anything about his father except his name.
Needless to say, that extended to his father's family as well. I have been
able to piece together some of the Canfield lineage however, based on
marriage license return data, census data, and the like.
John was the son of Elijah E Canfield (c1817 NY - aft 1880 IL) &
Sarah
Maria Griggs (c1834 IN - ??)
I believe but have not yeen been able to firmly establish that Elijah
was
the son of Hezekiah G. Canfield (c.1781 Vt - aft 1850 IN ?) and Mary [last
name unknown] (c1787 PA - aft 1850 IN ?)
I believe "my" Hezekiah was the same who fought in the War
of 1812 in the
2nd and 18th Regiments of the New York Militia.
I think there was probably a brother of Hezekiah's named Elisha.
I also think but am not sure that the Hezekiah was the son of either 1]
Silas
Canfield, 2] Nathan Canfield, or 3] Israel Canfield, all 3 of whom
were enumerated in Bennington County, VT in 1790, and had male children less
than 16 yrs old. I am leaning towards Silas as the best bet but that is so
far just a hunch.
Does any of this ring any bells with anyone?
My gedcom, with sources and a lot of notes, is at

Hope to hear from someone soon!
