Thanks Rita. I found a book in our University Library from the State
Historical Society of North Dakota where it mentions the Canfield's.

I have the book "A History of Thomas Canfield and of Matthew Camfield with a
Genealogy of their Descendants in New Jersey", compiled by Frederick A.
Canfield, Dover, NJ, 1897. Will be happy to do lookups. I found my family
in this book. It overlapped info I had from my cousin in Topeka, Kansas by
two generations. It seems to be well done.

As you already may know, the names William and Thomas are going to
give
you
a lot of trouble distinguishing them among the many other men of that
era
with those names. I am researching my Canfield family and have found
great
amount of specific information in the Canfield - Rose Canfield
Collection-
a
body of work done circa 1890+ which includes all Canfield's known
and is
alphabetized by first name. It can be found in film form via the LDS
(Mormon) Family History Centers. You can look the film number up on
their
website:
www.Familysearch.com . This work follow both Matthew &
Sarah
Camfield and Thomas & Pheobe Camfield from 1640+. It will take a lot of
sleuthing on your part, but it is well worth it if you can connect your
William & Thomas to the above named Camfield men. Good hunting.

If you are researching two individuals that were married, it is
usually a good idea to send your message to both surname lists.
(ie. CANFIELD-L(a)rootsweb.com & OTHERSURNAME-L(a)rootsweb.com)
