I am researching Canfield family also -- I use the Canfield
Collection
(also
known as the Rose Canfield Collection) which is on film with the LDS
(Mormon) Family History Center. This gentleman tracked the
Camfield/Canfield families of two men: Matthew & Sara (Treat) Camfield or
Thomas & Pheobe Camfield who both appeared in New Haven, CT, in 1640 and
1647 respectively. This particular researcher did a magnificent job of
tracking each family member and their families and provided a short bit of
information such as their generation number, who their parents were, their
wives and children (if known) and last known place of residence. By the
way,
the best part is that everyone is listed by their first name and in
alphabetical order! Wonderful!!!! I say this in the hope that you order
this film. The first part of the film is Matthew's descendants and the
2nd
half is of the Thomas Canfield descendants.
Saying that, I descend from the Matthew Camfield line and I see in the
Canfield Collection I mentioned above that there is LENA M. CANFIELD-10
(10th generation), daughter of CHARLES CANFIELD - 9. The 10th generation
was usually born about the late 1800's which would put her in "your
ballpark". When I went back to the "Charles" section and there are
several
men named "Charles" who were born in 9th generation (or
mid-1800's)> It
would take more time than I have to research this for you, so that is why
I
am pointing you in the direction of this film.
I am not at all sure, but I bet there is a book on the Canfield clan you
can
purchase via "Higgins Book Shop", a genealogical store,
which can be found
via the internet.
Last of all there is a Genevieve Canfield who runs the Canfield
Association
(I don't have an address) who keeps tidbits from all sources and
tries to
help where she can in matching the Canfield names. Some one on this
Canfield Board would have the address, I am sure -- but if not, there is
also a film or microfiche in the LDS FHC's that would help give you the
address. Good luck. Sandy Childs in Calif.
Researching Alice-8, Orsemus-7, Ira-6, Silas-5, Timothy-4, Ebenezer-3,
Samuel-2 and Matthew-1. Canfield.
