There are a good many of us Canfield descendants on this list, but you are only
the 2nd one that I have heard from that has a VT possible ancestor. I have been
told that my Canfields probably are from the VT area -- and I have also been told
by some nice person on this list that my ancestors are from the Matthew Canfield
side (Thomas Canfield is a brother and also had bookoo ancestors) and that from
there is a Silas Canfield (Sr. and Jr.) and that from there it comes down the
line to Orsemus (Sr. &Jr) and we think now that Orsemus Jr. is my Great
grandfather. I am working to establish this connection - so this is all
speculation right now.
What I DO know is that my Orsemus Canfield was born in 1814 NY, had a brother
Amos B. Canfield. Orsemus then went to Indiana in 1832 and on to Three Rivers,
St. Lawrence County, Michigan. He and his family then went to Lucas County, Iowa
with his family settling there as farmers in 1862. They were following Amos.
They remained there their entire life.
There is major works (books) on Canfield lines that I found via the LDS and also
there is a Canfield Society that puts out periodicals. I understand that they too
can be obtained via the LDS libraries. Hope our group can shed some light. Good
hunting. Sandy Childs
