Hello Scott,
I am so happy to hear that you also respect Geniveive, for all her
"works" of her self made Canfield genealogy!
If I were her, I would also find it hard to let go of all my accumulated
information. It is not only something to be proud of in accomplishments,
but also hard to let go of, as it is her own volunteered time and efferts to
organize such a large amount of information... I don't really know how long
she has been doing all this, but I would say she has been doing this for 20
years or so... I could not let go of my little "baby" either... You are
right, we need to not be selfish in thoughts, to enable our own success, but
we should respect her for who she is and what she has done for all the
Canfield families.
"Congratulations to you Genivieve, and honor to you for all your help."
(If your out there, Genivieve.)
Thanks for your admiration there, Scott... PJ Canfield

Subject: [CANFIELD] Canfield Family Association
Bev / Sandy / List:
In her letter in the latest Canfield Family Association publication,
Genevieve says, "welcome to our many new members," so I believe she is
accepting membership applications. The address is: CFA, 1144 North
Gordon,
Wichita, Kansas 67203. An Active membership is $8 per year.
Also in the letter, she hints at a new project, and asked for all members
email addresses. I don't know what that means, hopefully something good.
I
think the key to this whole thing about getting her information
computerized, is not to push. The information she has accumulated is her
property. No one has the right to force her to do anything with it. I
know
she has had offers of help, but she will decide if, when, and how
her
archives will be shared with the future.
That $8 membership got me past my genealogical brick wall. I was
searching
for a John C. Canfield, my gg-grandfather. I gave Genevieve the
information
I had, and she sent me new information and said this is probably him,
John
Cromack Canfield. I wrote back and told her no, that can't be him because
it didn't match with our family's spoken history, not at all. I kept
searching, but eventually went back to the name Genevieve gave me, I sent
for birth/death certificates, and she was right. I later learned that our
spoken family history was confusing (mixing) a couple different ancestors,
the facts were correct, but assigned to the wrong persons. The
information
she gave me showed my ancestors going back to Thomas Canfield.
