My Canfields were born in NY 1814, but moved to Indiana 1832 and Three Rivers,
St. Joseph County, Michigan in 1839 and remained there until 1862 when the
moved to and settled as farmers near the town of Chariton, Lucas Co., Iowa
(Southern Iowa, below and east of DesMoines and somewhat near the Missouri
border). The two brothers that came from NY were Orsamus and Amos Canfield.
They may have had other siblings, but I don't know and I am trying to find
their parents names. They are hard to find since the census at that period of
time are listed under head of household and do not list names of members of the
families.
In Michigan, Orsamus married Emma Cole, a clergyman's daughter, had 4 children,
but names and disposition are unknown. Emma died in 1851 and Orsamus married
Hannah Duncan from Centreville, MI. in 1851. They had ten kids together - born
between 1852 and approx. 1870 - the census said listed all as born in Iowa, but
it doesn't make sense so I believe some were born in MI and others in Iowa.
Although they all stayed primarily around three southern counties (Lucas,
Marion and Wayne) in Iowa, later some moved to Kansas and Colorado and other
parts. I can't believe how much Orsamus and Amos' generation moved around as
hard as it must've been so very hard. I have more specifics if it will help
you.
By the way, in the Michigan website, I found census for 1840 and 1850 and in
St. Joseph I did see two Canfields living, but living with the Taylor and Reed
families. Youj might want to take a look. Good luck.

Hi All!
I've been looking for information on Canfield's in Goegebic County, Mi.
I have Clarence Grant Canfield b. March 3, 1885, wife's name was
"Nellie".
They had at least 5 sons: Richard John b. August 21, 1913 m. Victoria Gaff:
Warren G. d. May 28, 1944; Frances, Robert m. Bernice, and "Babe"...a
nickname don't know the given name. No other birth dates known.
They lived in the Ironwood-Bessemer area. Richard remembered living in
Texas for a while when he was a little boy. Clarence Grant lived in South
Dakota in the late 1950's , building a bridge for the government.
Does any of this match someone's information? This is my husband's
family and they have no other information!
Thank You all! Jan Canfield
