Scott and Susan:
I just got back into town and thank you, Susan, for responding and telling me
that we probably are not related Canfield wise. However, I would like to
know more about Scott's Canfields and then ask both of you to keep me in the
loop with your discoveries.
My Canfields are my GG ORSUMUS and HANNAH (DUNCAN) CANFIELD (his second wife)
who moved to Iowa in the very early 1860's, taking advantage of the Homestead
Act by settling a farm. They were some of the original settlers in Lucas
County, Union Township near the town of Chariton. They had ten children who
pretty much stayed in that general area: Lucas, Wayne, Marion counties for
the first part of their young married lives - before moving later in life to
other states - Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and so on. Their children's
names were: HENRY, EZRA CHARLES (aka E.C. or Charles), ALICE, HIRAM V.,
ALBERT J., ELMER B., ELSIE, ULYSSES, MINNIE and CARRIE MARGARET (aka OLA).
ORSAMUS CANFIELD was born in 1814 (parents unknown) in Millport, Chennung
County, moved to Indiana when he was 22 (1836) and then on to Three Rivers,
Michigan at age 32 (1839). He married first wife, EMMA COLES, in 1841. She
had 4 children, and died in 1851. Names and disposition of those children
are unknown and I am seeking them as we speak.
He then married second wife, HANNAH DUNCAN, in 1852 in Centerville, Michigan.
HANNAH was born in Schuykill County, Pennsylvania. ALICE CANFIELD is my GG
grandmother who married GEORGE MCKINDER, a Yorkshire miner, in 1883 in Lucas
Co.. George seemed to be one of the explorer miners for the Hiteman mine in
1882+. They lived around Hiteman and Chariton until her death in 1912.
GEORGE MCKINDER AND ALICE CANFIELD MCKINDER had 6 children of their own, one
of which, CHARLEY MCKINDER, was my grandfather. Any bells ring? Any
direction or information? Take care.

Hi, Susan:
Did you have any luck finding John Montgomery Canfield?
I have a John Montgomery Canfield in my family tree, but he's not the one
you are looking for.
Good hunting.
Later,
Scott Canfield
