Yes, was looking for a John Mosher (Moser) Canfield... to extend the search
thru MI>
Ha just more thoughts to add to the search... It would be nice if I at
least knew ONE parent's name... He is supposed to be George Morris Canfield
born in MI... 7/11/1894.

I rented the "Canfield Collection" (aka Rose Canfield
Collection) from the
LDS. I am lucky that the local LDS Stake (church) 5 min. from my home has
a
small research room (that's quite common, but most people think
that only
the large LDS libraries can get films from Salt Lake. Not so. Any LDS
research room can.) I had so much Canfield research that I rented it for
three consequetive times and with that, they keep it on file there. On
certain names I am researching, I copied a few pages. Best news is that
anytime I have the time and inclination, I can go check the film at my
local
stake's research room. I will go sometime this week and see what
it has
listed for George Morris or Morris. (I have found that "common" names
like
John, George, James and so forth there are many, many pages - not all
with
middle names or initials - and many without anything but the name. Making
searching for common names like looking for the proverbial needle in the
haystack.
I do know that in my immediate line, there are no George's. There may be
some in other related lines down from Matthew, but, as I said, I will have
to check this out.
I suggest that if at all possible, go to the nearest LDS FHC and place an
order for this film. It is worth the price ($3.60 x 2 extensions) to have
it local to research. Saves my sanity.
By the way, an extra added incentive -- it also holds the Thomas Camfield
side which would double your chance of finding George.
Regarding migration from NY to MI -- Loads of Canfields from both Matthew
and Thomas side migrated from NY to MI. Must've been some great land deal
at that place and time.
JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING -- Weren't you looking for a John Canfield also?
In the BLM Land purchases for Michigan, a John Canfield was buying up huge
amounts of land in 1840-60's (+-). I may have found this also through the
USGENWEB.COM website.
Good hunting. Sandy
