Hello again, Ron.
Here's some Canfield family info that may help you in your search. Some of
this info is taken directly from a family tree typed by a Wm.B. Canfield in
1927 when he lived in at 1007 E. Yampa St., Colorado Springs, CO, and passed
on to my by the family of a brother of my ggrandmother (Alice Canfield
McKinder).
Before I type that part, perhaps you know that the family line goes:
Matthew-1 Camfield, Samuel-2, Ebenezer-3, Timothy-4, Silas-5. This is
where we will start utlizing the family tree mentioned above. I am also
using information from the Rose Canfield Collection to flesh out the dates
and other vitals. There is more information on each of the names listed
above and all other Silas Canfield descendants in the Rose Canfield
Collection film.
Silas-5 (s. of Timothy-4 & Keziah Ferris) b. 24 Apr., 1741 in Ridgefield,
Fairfield Co., CT. m. Judith (Graham) in Rye, Westchester Co., NY. Ch:
Hezekiah Graham-6, John-6 (d.s.), Hiram Elisha-6 (aka Elisha), Philander-6,
Zenas-6, David-6, Silas-6, Ira-6, Thaddeus-6, and Orsemus-6. (The above
records are from the Rose Canfield collection, but LDS microfiche indicate
that other children were: Keziah, Betsey, and Lucy.)
Silas was found as a Freeman in Manchester, Bennington Co., VT records. He
enlisted from 1777 to 1781 in the Continental Army under Col. Seth Warner's
NY company (VT soldiers were connected in this way to the Rev.War.)
However, he is also found (yet to be checked out) listed as enlisted on 21
Apr. 1758 as Silis Cannafield, 18 yrs. old (b. CT), in New York state
militia for the expedition against Crown Point. On 8 April 1760, Silos
Canfield, age 18yr.,enlisted from Westchester Co.,NY. It says he was a
weaver. He is found in the 1790 census as a land owner but has left by 1800
and rumored to have moved to Luzerne,PA. (No verification found) Also
purported to have died circa 1823. Unknown location.
Hezekiah Graham-6's info: b. 20 Sept. 1781, in Manchester, Bennington Co.,
VT. d. 12 May 1863 in Versailes, Ripley Co., IN. m. Mary (Martha) Rowley in
1802 Luzern Co.,PA. 9 ch: Betsey-7, Minor-7, Rhoda-7, Joel-7 (b.1710,
d.1825), Mary-7, Elijah, Lucy-7, Graham-7, Nancy Eliza-7. He lived in
Sunman, Ripley Co., IN. Found in 1820 census in Manchester, Dearborn Co.,
IN. Listed as Corpl. in Capt. Cleland's Co. in War of 1812. (Previously
found in 1810 Steuben Co.,NY).
Minor-7. (s. of Hezekiah Graham and Mary (Rowley)) b. 14 Oct. 1805 (believe
in VT.) m. Jane Buchanan Early, 8 ch: William Lafayette-8, Laura Ann-8,
Arvilla E., Rhoda Caroline-8, Mary Esther, George Allen-8, Margaret
Vashti(Tashti)-8, Avindo Blumenback-8. He was a physician. (From the book
"Illinois Vets living in Missouri" it shows a Minor Canfield as a Cpl. with
the 11th Missouri, Union Infantry - this may be Minor (Jr.)?) A Minor
Canfield found listed in the 1850 Indiana census, Franklin Co., Ray Twp.
------------------------------------------
My gg grandfather Ira-6 Canfield (s. of Silas & Judith) m. Melissie Newman,
(birth, marriage & death dates and places unknown. I'm working on the theory
that Ira may have had another name such as Philander, as there is NO info on
this brother.)
7 children of Ira & Melissie are:
My ggrandfather:
Orsemus-8 (m1. Emily Cole, m.2 Hannah Duncan), 10 ch. His daughter Alice
Canfield McKinder is my ggrandmother.
Elisha C. (m. Emma Frazier)
Laura (m. Edward Collins)
Amos B. (m. Rachel M. Cutler)
Abram (no info)
Phoebe Samantha (m. Isaac Knapp)
As I mentioned, I am in contact with descendants of Hezekiah's son Graham
(Gene Kincaid), and Silas Jr. (Pam Brown). We all have pieces to the
puzzle. Hope this helps you some. Sandy Childs

Hi Sandy
It would seem you and I are probably related, if you are a descendant of
Minor Canfield, son of Hezekiah.
The Minor Canfield being discussed here, same as your Minor, was older
brother to my maternal 2nd gr-grandfather Elijah Canfield. Elijah & Minor
both being sons of Hezekiah.
My descent is:
1] Elijah Canfield b. circa 1817 New York married 9 Sep 1850 Ripley Co IN
to
Sarah Maria Griggs b. circa 1834 IN. This was his 2nd or 3rd
marriage,
with
at least one more after her. No death dates/places for either of
them.
BTW -- Elijah also had a son named Minor, born to I believe his first wife
2] Their son John Canfield, b. c. 1862, Clay Co. IL [??] & d. 17 Aug 1927
Christian Co IL married 30 Dec 1889 Christian Co, IL to Lois Rebecca Moler
b. circa 1871 Jefferson Co, IN & died circa 1903??. This was 2nd of third
marriage for her, and at least his 2nd of three, if not more. John walked
out on Lois about the time of the birth of their son. She died when their
son was about 12, although I haven't been able to pin this down yet.
3] Their son Joseph Edgar Canfield b. 9 Mar 1891 Christian Co. IL & d. 8
Jan
1948 Phelps Co, MO married 29 Aug 1910 Williamson Co, IL Hattie May
Page,
b.
9 June 1887 Franklin Co, IL & d. 5 Nov 1960 St. Louis, MO.
4] Their daughter Lois Rebecca Canfield b. 9 Mar 1927 St. Clair Co IL & d.
9
Nov 1988 St Louis Co, MO married 17 Aug 1959 Jefferson Co, MO Marion
John
Johnson, b. Aug 26 1915 Bond Co. IL & d. 3 Jan 1984 St Louis, MO. 2nd
marriage for both.
5] I am the oldest of 3 children of Lois & Marion.
I have spent most of the last couple years working on other lines, and
have
only recently started trying to put together my Canfield line, so
there
are
quite a few holes to fill. I have had better luck tracing
gr-gr-grand-uncle
Minor's family than my own direct line. Frustrating, to say the
least.
Just received another e-mail from the gentleman who originally sent me the
transcript below. In addition to including scans of the Bible pages, he
mentions that he is not related, as far as he knows. But somehow the
belongings of Minor Canfield's child Avindo B. Canfield came into his
gr-grandfather's possession many years ago, and that his grandfather
donated
them to an historical museum about 30 yrs ago. This included a
British
Dragoon Sword used by Esthram Rowley in the Revelutionary War. I assume
that
this Mr. Rowley is somehow part of Mary Rowley's line, but I have
no other
information yet. I will try to get more, and if I do, will let you all
know
asap.

My family tree is missing some branches!

==== CANFIELD Mailing List ====
If you are researching two individuals that were married, it is
usually a good idea to send your message to both surname lists.
