Judy: I kept your message about Hannah Canfield and just re-read it. I thought
you'd like to know two things: 1. There is a website for MATTHEW CAMFIELD
which can be found by typing in that name on your search engine. Camfield is
the way they spelled it then and soon after it changed to CANFIELD. This
website also describes how Matthew and his brother, Thomas, were in America in
mid-1600's. Then Matthew moved to Newark, NJ to become one of the founding
fathers. That would put the Canfields in place to meet your ancestor WARD.
(2) There is research work done on the Canfield line, both brothers, that is
quite detailed and can be found via LDS Library Books & film/fiche categories.

Hi, I'm not too sure if there would be connections in NY or not,
really.
My CANFIELD ancestor is Hannah CANFIELD, b: 1708, Newark, Essex, NJ. She
married Elemuel(or Lemuel)WARD also of Newark, in 1754, and I really have no
more information about her family than that. Many of my WARD ancestors have
a lot written on them because of their connections to the founders of
Newark, but I haven't found much on her, so far. If you have any clues to
books about NY or NJ histories that mention the CANFIELDs, let me know. We
have a great Geneology Library here, so I may find the books there. Thanks,
Judy W.

If you are researching two individuals that were married, it is
usually a good idea to send your message to both surname lists.
