Hello,
I live in St. Louis, Missouri and saw on the local news tonight that
There is a BRIDGETON MEMORIAL PARK - 1843 - 1963 ( North St. Louis) that
is Looking for persons with family buried there. The airport is being
expanded and they are going to move the CEMETERY.
Is there a way to get this message to as many listers as possible in a
short amount of time?
Can you help!

BRIDGETON MEMORIAL PARK, Bridgeton, Missouri This burying ground at 4616
Long Road was made into a memorial park in 1962. In 1959 several
lawsuits were filed against the City for allowing the cemetery to
deteriorate. Individual stones had already been removed "through error
and misunderstanding" but members of the Bridgeton Historical Commission
were able to learn the names of some who were buried there and a large
monument was erected in 1963 which bears this inscription, "We honor the
people buried here. They were part of this nation's adventure and their
vision lighted the path we follow today."
At the dedication ceremonies, Mrs. Anna Wilson gave a talk about
African-American veterans who are buried here. Records indicate that
the cemetery was integrated from its beginning. It was in use as late
as 1954 and at least 100 people are buried in the two acres. On the
bronze plaque of the monument are the following names:

Adrienne, if you want to UNsubscribe from this list temporarily, until it's a
better time for you, all you have to do is this: Bring up your mail and in
the Send To box write this:
CANFIELD-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
Then in the "Subject" line, write just one word: unsubscribe
Just to be sure I usually write the same single word in the body of the mail.
I hope you'll reconsider, though about unsubscribing, because you never know
who might pop up with just the information YOU are looking for. You can just
be an observer and learn about people you MIGHT be related to! :-)
This really is a fun list, and it's full of nice people!
Love,
Susan
--part1_20.bc3f470.26fe4bfa_boundary--
No idea!
I did not ask for subscribe for it. I guess someone did put in without
asking my permission. I don't know how it is happened. I did not ask for it
because I was confused about it for a while.
I thought it was accident, not misconception. Someone said to me that he got
some emails by somebody by accident. It grew circle without my knowledge,
even though they used my e mails. I am really sorry to cause you trouble,
but I understand your point.
I know nothing about Canfield at all. I have no information. If I have
information, I would love to share with everyone, but sorry. It is not good
time for me. I want to know about Lottie Leora Canfield so bad because it is
no information on website at all. I will have to go to Nebraska for
documents, etc.
I wish I have answers for you, all, but I cannot.
I did post message through Genforum only about Lottie Leora Canfield.
Thanks,
Adrienne
My CANFIELDS did wind up in Ohio, but I always thought they came directly
from New Jersey! However, the more I am reading, the more I am thinking that
CT WAS integrated in there somewhere. My line goes back only as far as John
Montgomery CANFIELD, who was born in Ohio. Do you have any "Jacobs" in your
line? I'm trying to check out all of the "Jacobs" I can to see if any of
them might be the dad of John Montgomery.
Thanks.
Susan
Adrienne, I think you've gotten a misconception about this list you've
subscribed to. We don't usually receive personal e-mails. Everybody's
e-mails are all posted to the same list. And, if you are subscribed to the
"Canfield" list, you receive a copy of EVERY e-mail that is sent, no matter
who it is to or who it is from. That is one of the benefits of being a
member of the list. You can see who everyone else is researching, add your
own list if you choose to, make comments or corrections, whatever. But
nobody is trying to inundate you with mail you don't want. Not you
PERSONALLY. You are simply receiving notification that somebody ELSE that is
on the list is talking with another member of the Canfield list . . . not
necessarily you. So just sit back and read everything that comes through, if
you choose to, or, if it doesn't have anything to do with what you're
interested in and you don't care to read about other Canfields that are being
researched, just delete those e-mails.
But, don't forget, that we are always here to help you when you ARE ready to
add something to the list, to converse about something we've said, or
whatever . . . having to do with CANFIELDS. That's why we are all members of
this list!
I hope you do keep in touch with all of us, and I hope, even though we aren't
talking about YOUR Canfields, that you will continue monitoring the list.
Sometimes something comes across that is really a clue to your own line,
something you've not even thought about! That's what makes this genealogy
FUN! All the nice people involved!!!!
Stay tuned . . . we help each other!
Susan Strain
Thank you all for regenerating interest and dialogue in the Canfields, and in
response to Davida, I have a brief interest in the Canfields of Connecticut.
I have a Eugene E. CANFIELD, b. 1853, Chardon, Geauga Co., OH; d. 31 May
1939, Chico, Butte Co., CA. He mar. Lizzie Belle CREW in Chico, sometime in
1886. I don't have his parents yet.....but I do have the following
interesting partial obit from the "Chico Record," Thurs., 1 Jun 1939, pg. 1/3:
"Eugene E. Canfield, the last surviving member of a family that settled in
Connecticut in 1646 and one of Chico's prominent and revered citizens, died
at .........."
My understanding from earlier members on this list is that there was a
Canfield migration from Connecticut to Ohio, and his story is in keeping with
this history.
Anyone else working on Canfields from Connecticut to Ohio?
Ralph Clouse, Sacramento
Leilani, can you share names of those CANFIELDS that settled in Houston,
Harris County, TX? That is where most of my CANFIELDS settled, also. I'd be
interested to know if yours have the same "family names" that I heard in my
clan! Mine are:
Byron, Erstin, Clarence, Grace, "Lizzie", Carrie, Hugh, Mark, Ernest, Mary
Frances, all children of John Montgomery CANFIELD and Eleanor
JOHNSON-CANFIELD.
Thanks,
Susan
You know, if we could just find ONE common denominator between all of these
CANFIELDS, I bet we'd have ONE big, happy family! But where IS that one
common denominator???????????? :-)
Susan
Hi:
Where was Anson born and did he go to Texas? My Canfields were from New

Anther country heard from. Where in New York are your Canfields from and what

I don't have any information on the Connecticut branch, but my Canfield branch
came out of Millsport, Choenong County (sp?), NY in 1814. Don't have any
information before that time and am looking for same, of course. My great-great
grandfather was Orsamus Canfield and his brother was Amos Canfield. They
migrated to Elkhart, Indiana in 1832 and to Three Rivers, St. Joseph Co.,
Michigan in 1839. Orsamus married a Emma Cole in 1841, had 4 children (names and
disposition unknown) and after her death in 1851 he married Hannah Duncan
Canfield in Centreville, MI. They eventually had about 10 children born either
in Michigan or Iowa (depending on age). They moved to Lucas County, Iowa,
approximately 1862 and settled as farmers. They remained their until their
deaths - Orsamus in 1907. All their children remained in and around Lucas, Wayne
and Marion counties for most their lives, only moving on to Kansas and Colorado
and other states later in their lives. Don't know if any connection, but there
it is. Sandy in Calif.

Hi
Would anyone have any information on Canfield in Connecticut. I have Alva
Canfield b. 3 Feb 1863 he married Carrie Tripp, divorced and married
Christine Gandrup. Alva's parents were Alva Canfield and Mary ---- and his
father was Cornelius Canfield? This is all information I have at this time.
I am trying to link these Canfield's together and gather data on them, and
perhaps go further back with Cornelius. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks

Dear Pam.
Would you have the information on: (10 George A Canfield (6 Apr 1848 - )
I am searching for a George Morris Canfield born 7/11/1894. Not sure where
he was born but he did live in Macon or Macomb Michigan for awhile... then
moved to South Dakota around 1923 ,,it is there where he married Hermina
Bucholtz and raised 7 children,,Their names were, Wm Harry, Robert Morris,
Benjamin Joseph, Bess Vida, Mary Ellen, Arthur Charles, and Mildred Eva.
George Morris Canfield died in June of 1939, 2 weeks before the last child
was born.
Does anyone know of this family? Also it has been said that he had 7
sisters and NO brothers...and he used to receive letters from Ironwood
Michigan,,but at that time, no one, except himself, could read.. so no one
living now, knows who the letters came from, but have found a small amount
of info on Canfield's from Gogebic Co.
Thanks for your information, as I keep as much Canfield info as
possible..

Hi.
I did not start anything, but I got different message about Canfield, even
though it is my line. They called me Pam and Susan by mistake.
I am on Lottie Leora Canfield's line, anyway. I do not have information
about her family yet, but she was married with Lorin A. White. She died in
Lincoln,Nebraska on 1921.
I am working on it.
Thanks and sorry about confusion.
I don't know what happened.
Adrienne
Adrienne....
You are on a genealogical e-mail list - the Canfield List - and you see all
the e-mails sent BY everyone else on the list, TO everyone else on the
list......
Ralph Clouse, Sacramento
Pam, my John Montgomery CANFIELD was born in 1827 in Ohio (Momma's Bible says
Columbus, Ohio). The 1880 Miami County, Kansas census states that he was 53
when it was taken. His father is listed as having been born in New Jersey,
and his mother in Ohio.
John Montgomery's wife was Eleanor (Elinor) Johnson, who was born in 1837 in
Ohio (Momma's Bible says Larue, Ohio). Her father is listed as having been
born in England and her mother in Maryland.
Momma's Bible says that John Montgomery was born in 1826, so depending on
when his birthday was, that could be correct. She lists that he died in 1894.
She notes that John Montgomery's father's name was Jacob Canfield, born in
New Jersey, the father of 19 children! She further has written that John
Montgomery's mother was a Montgomery. Further, it states that Jacob
Canfield's father was named Jacob C. Canfield, from England. That this Jacob
C. Canfield came from England to New Jersey in 1775.
I must tell you that I have found some of Momma's notations to be wrong, or
at least not COMPLETELY accurate. In most instances they are right, but some
are just "close". I still consider this Bible a good source of information,
though, because more of it is right than is wrong!
I hope this gives you some clue. Unfortunately, I don't go back any further
than John Montgomery and these sketchy markings in Momma's Bible. I do have
a complete list of his children and their birthdates if that would help.
Thanks again.
Susan
Hi Susan,
Would love to share data. I don't think your John Montgomery Canfield is in my
tree. Here is my Jacob's family:
1. Jacob R. Canfield (19 Apr 1834 - 3 Oct 1875) & Mary T. Glardon (7 Dec 1837 - )
1.1 Mary Ellen Canfield (30 May 1857 - 18 Oct 1857)
1.2 Charles Henry Canfield (21 Jul 1859 - ) & Gairey Bird
1.3 Philena May Canfield (26 Feb 1862 - 18 Feb 1865)
1.4 William Owen Canfield (26 Feb 1865 - )
1.5 Lucy Alice Canfield (29 Apr 1867 - 30 Apr 1930) & Edward Moreland (1872 - 5
Jan 1953)
1.6 Virginia Canfield (20 Dec 1869 - 26 Jan 1870)
1.7 George Beal Canfield (26 Jan 1871 - 8 Oct 1871)
1.8 Bena Edith Canfield (2 May 1873 - 30 Dec 1907) & Franklin Swift Miller
Pastor (6 Feb 1872 - 28 Feb 1931)
1.9 Clayton Canfield (25 Sep 1875 - )
As you can see, no John. Jacob died shortly after the birth of his last child.
However, I do know that Jacob's father Anson moved to KS and I don't have a lot
on several of his children who may have had a son with the name you are looking
for. When and where was your John born?
I have lots of Canfield data specific to my family tree. I will look through it
and see if anything pops up on your John. As I said, they are likely in the same
family tree, it's just a matter of determining which branch. Most of the
research I've seen is either on the Matthew Camfield or Thomas Canfield lines. I
follow the Matthew line. There were several Canfield cousins from the Thomas
line in IN at the same time as my family.

Sorry to say-- I am not Pam, but I am Adrienne White Stefanik from San Pedro,
CA.
Lottie Leora Canfield is my great grandmother. I am waiting for the answer!!
You are very funny that we can be connected, but not yet official!!!!!
Good news, I found Lorin A. White from Utah finally this morning!!!!!!!!! He
found a record about it and will send me a copy soon by mail!!!! It is
perfect match. The fee is so cheap! But, I paid 9 dollars for nothing in
Salt Lake City because it is nothing found.
He was a son of Martha Allen Scott and James F. White. I do have an
excellent information on Martha Allen Scott's line, but none for James and
Lottie. Lorin was married with Lottie. I have no idea about Lottie Leora
Canfield and no information about her family at all. I am working on it!
She was born in 1866 in Nebraska? Because it leaves blank. I will get a
marriage certificate and find out who her parents are. Hope it is printed!!!
Sometimes, some certificate record do not print names of parents.
Thanks.
Talk to you later,
Adrienne
Did you get my family tree through download?
Pam, we very well could be connected! Do you have ANY information on the
children of your Jacob R. Canfield? That is the name that was given to me by
my now-deceased Momma as my John Montgomery CANFIELD's dad.
Your migrations of your Canfields are just like mine . . . at least from New
Jersey on. I wasn't sure about the Vt and NY because I don't go that far
back. I'm certainly keeping your information. I just have this "hunch" that
they're going to link up!
Thanks for posting!
