Cooooool thinker, Bev. I am admire you for doing on genealogy, even though
you are in wheelchair with one hand!!!!! You helped me SO MUCH!
Well. I am profound DEAF.
What library can I look up on Thomas Canfield. I need addresses to contact
with and can do research. LDS is not enough for me!!!!
I need information on children's names of Thomas' lines. I understand that
you cannot type it all on e mail. If you do have information fully, I would
like to copy papers and mail it to me if you can or not. Of course, I do
respect your privacy.
If you like to mail me, we can talk on e mail address individually. No
problem.
Best Wishes, BEV!

Okay now Adrienne--
1. I'll give you some titles
2. print those out.
3. walk down to your nearest public library with that list.
4. ask the librarian to give you the cards or sheets to ask for an
interlibrary loan on each book.
5. don't take no for an answer (lots of lib. don't want to bother with
gen.)
6. fill out the cards, etc. The lib. then searches for the books, they
may come "in-lib." use only
7. for Sgt. Thomas Canfield--ask for
"History of Essex and Hudson Counties, NJ"- 1884
"History of New Haven County, CT by J. L. Rockey 1892
"Families of Early Milford, CT" by S.W. Abbott, 1979
If they will not send books, ask for copy of index pages for Thomas and
get copies of those pages.
Above system has worked for me for 32 years.

Sandy Childs--just two tips I have found over the years--
1. if you cannot find a fact, you are usually in the wrong county or
location.
2. " " , you have skipped a generation somewhere. I see
alot of typed lineages, and usually they have a missed generation or two
in between. Check dates carefully, are they logical. Does a 62 yr. old
man have a son born that late? ie.-a missed generation in between.
lots of fun, eh??

Well, fellow listers---many of us have been doing this intriguing hobby
of genealogy for years. BUT don't despair if you are just starting out
on your lines!!! I can still remember 32 years ago when I knew nothing at
all about where to look. It has been a wonderful ride!!!
Canfield lineage is well documented. Check familysearch.org for the LDS
library listings of books and films on Matthew and Thomas Canfield. Many
books you can interlibrary loan back to your local library for in-library
use, or ask for photocopy of the books index. Then order those pertinent
pages copied.
I have alot of info, in fact too much to type out. Am in wheelchair, and
typing only with right hand, so am not able to type alot.
Do consider getting titles of books and trying to request thru your
library. That is the way I did it.

Beverly,
Are you on my line officially? I am from Matthew or Thomas Canfield's line.
I am great granddaughter of Lottie Leora Canfield.
Thanks,
Adrienne
Adrianne: I wrote the message about possibly being the ancestor of Matthew
Canfield. I am slowly working my way back through the lineage but one of our
list members gave me the clue of my Orsemus Canfield, being a son of Orsemus
Sr., who was son of Silas Jr., son of Silas Sr. and he was the son of Matthew.
Right now I am researching Michigan and Indiana Canfields as I am told by our
list member that some of Matthew's decendants can be found both in Indiana and
in Michigan -- both states which my Orsemus lived in (1832 and 1839
respectively) for awhile before finally settling in Iowa in 1862. Orsemus had a
brother, Amos B. Canfield, who went to Iowa in 1852 well in advance of my
ggrandfather Orsemus. Anyway, that is the status of my research attempts
todate. Any luck on your end or do you think that your Canfields are from
Michigan, Indiana or Iowa? Sandy Childs

The Rose Canfield Collection is on a LDS film at their family history
library, Salt Lake.
But go to ancestry.com and search for Matthew, Samuel, Jedediah.
Matthew Canfield is mentioned in lots of books. Also search for title
"Canfield Family" by Hallie Canfield Kyle, 1979

info, meeting his relatives and staying over night here and there, and
possibly getting a meal and a place to stay, while always on horseback.. boy
I would have deffinitely been saddle sore.. PJ
